Surveying with construction applications

The article "A review of metaheuristic optimized machine learning regression with applications in construction engineering" aims at reviewing state-of-the-art research works involving the use of metaheuristic optimized machine learning regression models. Recent research articles published in the time period of 2019-2021 are surveyed. Research areas of construction material, construction management, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering, and structural health monitoring are taken into account.

The present study deals with the application of remote sensing and GIS for mapping of land resources of Nagenahalli watershed in Bangalore rural district of Karnataka. Base maps, google earth images, toposheets and satellite imagery (1:12,500 scale) collected from Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Bangalore have been used in the study. Maps on various themes, viz., land use, drainage, soil, slope, depth etc. have been generated using aforementioned satellite data coupled with ground truth.

This paper describes an on-going project concerning with an ontological lexical resource based on the abundant conceptual information grounded on Chinese characters. The ultimate goal of this project is set to construct a cognitively sound and computationally effective character-grounded machine-understandable resource. Philosophically, Chinese ideogram has its ontological status, but its applicability to the NLP task has not been expressed explicitly in terms of language resource.

In recent years, under impacts of human activities and climate change, flood has been increased in both the frequency and magnitude, causing lots of damages to people. This study presents a method to evaluate the direct spatial damages of flooding based on inundation depth and land use data. Damage functions for different types of land use arc selected and applied. Matlab strings and GIS are combined to calculate damage in monitery term. The method is applied for estimating loss caused by thc flood event November 1999 for Huong rivce basin.
