HIV-1 protease is an important target for treatment of AIDS, and efficient drugs have been developed. However, the resistance and negative side effects of the current drugs has necessitated the development of new compounds with different binding patterns. In this study, nine C-terminally duplicated HIV-1 protease inhibitors were cocrystallised with the enzyme, the crystal structures analysed at 1.8–2.3 A˚ resolution, and the inhibitory activity of the compounds characterized inorder toevaluate the effects of the individual modifications. ...

We define and study sl2 -categorifications on abelian categories. We show in particular that there is a self-derived (even homotopy) equivalence categorifying the adjoint action of the simple reflection. We construct categorifications for blocks of symmetric groups and deduce that two blocks are splendidly Rickard equivalent whenever they have isomorphic defect groups and we show that this implies Brou´’s abelian defect group conjecture for symmetric groups. e We give similar results for general linear groups over finite fields. ...

In this paper we give a geometric version of the Satake isomorphism [Sat]. As such, it can be viewed as a first step in the geometric Langlands program. The connected complex reductive groups have a combinatorial classification by their root data. In the root datum the roots and the co-roots appear in a symmetric manner and so the connected reductive algebraic groups come ˇ in pairs.

I prove a formula expressing the descendent genus g Gromov-Witten invariants of a projective variety X in terms of genus 0 invariants of its symmetric product stack S g+1 (X). We describe a Schubert induction theorem, a tool for analyzing intersections on a Grassmannian over an arbitrary base ring. The key ingredient in the proof is the Geometric Littlewood-Richardson rule of [V2]. As applications, we show that all Schubert problems for all Grassmannians are enumerative over the real numbers, and sufficiently large finite fields. We prove a generic smoothness theorem as a substitute for the Kleiman-Bertini theorem in positive characteristic.

There are very few examples of Riemannian manifolds with positive sectional curvature known. In fact in dimensions above 24 all known examples are diffeomorphic to locally rank one symmetric spaces. We give a partial explanation of this phenomenon by showing that a positively curved, simply connected, compact manifold (M, g) is up to homotopy given by a rank one symmetric space, provided that its isometry group Iso(M, g) is large. In this paper we introduce a method for partial description of the Poisson boundary for a certain class of groups acting on a segment. As an application we find among the groups of subexponential growth those that admit nonconstant bounded harmonic functions with respect to some symmetric (infinitely supported) measure µ of finite entropy H(µ).
