  • Rice-wheat (Oryza sativa L.-Triticum aestivum L.) rotation is the major production system in Asia, covering about 18 million ha. Continuous and conventional RWC system practice has witnessed a significant slowdown in the yield growth rate. The sustainability of this important cropping system is at risk due to second-generation problems (low fertility status, multiple nutrient deficiencies, and imbalanced use of fertilizers, ground water depletion at faster rate, soil salinization, and inadequate system diversity).

  • An Investigation on physico-chemical properties, NPK and micro nutrient status of soils of Janpad major, Left bank canal, Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP), Telangana, India was carried. The soils are having clay content ranging from 6 to 24 per cent, silt content from 4 to 20 per cent and sand content from 69 to 87 per cent. The Hydraulic conductivity varied from 15 to 20 cm day-1 with a mean value of 17.5 cm day-1 . Mostly the soils under the command area are slightly acidic to slightly alkaline and non-saline in nature.

  • The potential contribution of trees to soil improvement is one of the major assets of agroforestry in general and more specifically agroforestry lands. Agroforestry systems are often mentioned as type of sustainable agriculture. However, long term studies on the sustainability of this land use do not exist. The study was conducted at Agroforestry Research Farm, Nagpur to know the soil nutrient status of teak and bamboo plantations and to evaluate the soil nutrient status in agroforestry research farm which was compared with cultivable land.

  • Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the most important cereal crop in the world and is the staple food of over half the world’s population. In intensive cropping systems, maintenance of soil fertility is the major criteria to sustain the crop yields for longer period of time. In these systems, they deplete substantial amount of nutrients from the soil throughout year. For maintaining fertility status of soil on a long run, we should dependent on the different nutrient sources rather than single source chemical fertilizers.

  • Theoretical training starts with an explanation of the digestive system of ruminants and how ruminant animals are different from non-ruminants. Diagrammes of the diges- tive system of ruminants in power-point slides as well as video clips on the digestion and absorption of different nutrients is also shown during the training. The session on animal feeding includes name, identification, class of feed, major sources of nutrients, i.e. energy and protein, dry matter content, palatability, digestibility, intake etc.
