Tapioca flour

This study was aimed to customise enzymes specific for tapioca flour a common choice of the farmers here in Puducherry for the cereal source of the ruminant diet.

Eight isolates of entomopathogenic fungi were evaluated as dried conidia against the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica. In bioassays two isolates of Beauveria bassiana (BbGc and BbPs) and one isolate of Metarhizium anisopliae (MaPs) consistently gave high mortality to C. cephalonica larvae. Formulations in either kaolin, talc or tapioca flour (20 % w/w a.i.) thoroughly mixed with long grain rice in plastic cups (8 cm diameter by 5 cm) gave complete larval mortality by the 12th day of treatment.

Buffaloes are a potential source of nutritionally high quality meat. Buffalo meat is the healthiest meat among red meats known for human consumption. In order to improve the palatability of the buffalo meat a value added meat extruded product was developed using the tapioca flour as a binder.

A study is conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Pilicode for developing an instant curry paste with coconut kernel as base material which is in line with a traditional cuisine in Malabar region of Kerala. Spicy curry paste from desiccated coconut was prepared without any preservatives using virgin coconut oil, salt, curry leaf, guar gum, papaya starch, tapioca starch, jack fruit seed flour, onion powder and garlic powder along with an ideal blend of spices for instant, easy and fast cooking.
