The effects of self-questioning and perceptions on learning reading comprehension of the EFL students at a university level

This study aimed to determine the effects of self-questioning on pre-intermediate EFL students’ reading comprehension and explore their perceptions of learning to read with self-questioning. A quasi-experimental design was carried out among two groups of sixty-eight Vietnamese pre-intermediate students over a nine-week reading course using self-questioning and teacher-posed questions.

Reading strategies employed by Hue University non-English major students in reading English level 3 texts

The findings of this research indicate that students use a wide variety of strategies in their reading of English texts after receiving the intervention. Accordingly, reading strategy instruction should be taken into greater consideration by both EFL teachers and students so as to purposely activate and strengthen these strategic reading tools for students’ life-long learning.

Doctoral thesis of Philosophy: Investigating ICT-literacy assessment tools: Developing and validating a new assessment instrument for trainee teachers in Malaysia

The central concern of this study is to develop an ICT-literacy task-based assessment instrument that may be used to evaluate trainee teachers’ level of ICT-literacy. The current literature acknowledges the need for a measurement instrument that evaluates ICT-literacy levels. This type of measurement instrument is used as an entry-level testing tool for university and job placements. However, existing ICT-literacy assessment instruments are either too expensive to be implemented or too rigid with their expected answers; moreover, they are not tailored to a teacher’s individual needs.

The present study investigates teachers‘ perceptions of the values of the CEFR, the perceived readiness and necessity of its application, and the work involved in its application process. Also, it explores teachers‘ responses to the use of the CEFR to renew the general English curriculum, reflected in how they changed their teaching activities, adapted the assigned textbooks and modified their assessment practice. The study was a case study applying the mixed method sequential explanatory model (Creswell & Clark, 2007).

EFL teachers’ perceptions and practices regarding learner autonomy at Dong Thap University, Vietnam

The present study was conducted with 20 English-asa-foreign-language (EFL) teachers at Dong Thap University, Vietnam through interviews. The findings showed that the teachers had positive understandingsof the related aspects and levels of learner autonomy. In practice, they made significant attempts to cultivate students’ autonomy.
