Teaching science with animations

The present study was conducted in Teaching Veterinary clinical complex (TVCC) Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and in different districts of Punjab on randomly selected 200 dog owners i.e., 100 from urban (Group I) and 100 from rural (Group II) with the help of pretested interview schedule. Various current practices followed by dog owners about dog feeding, housing, breeding and health and management were mentioned in the study. Group I dog owners were following more correct practices than their counter parts.

One hundred cattle-calves irrespective of their age, sex and breed brought to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner were screened for Theileria annulata infection. Blood and lymph node aspirate smears were prepared from the ear vein and enlarged superficial lymph nodes of suspected cattle-calves and stained with Giemsa’s stain for detection of piroplams and schizonts under oil immersion, respectively.

A total of 100 cattle-calves irrespective of their age, sex and breed brought to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex of College of Veterinary and Animal science, Bikaner for treatment were screened for Theileria annulata infection. Blood samples were collected from jugular vein aseptically in vacutainers with and without anticoagulant for genomic DNA and serum isolation, respectively. The entire isolated DNA samples were subjected to nested polymerase chain reaction (nPCR), out of which 41 samples were found positive for Theileria annulata infection.

The present study was conducted on 36 crossbred cows with history of repeat insemination at different intervals, randomly categorized in infectious and non-infectious groups on basis of positive or negative reaction to Whiteside test belonging to the Dairy farm of College of Veterinary science and Animal Husbandry, Mhow and clinical cases of progressive farmers brought for artificial insemination to teaching veterinary clinical complex and at the doorstep of farmers in nearby villages.

A total of 62 serum samples were obtained from goats with history of abortion from Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC) and University Sheep and Goat Farm, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS), Mannuthy as well as various private farms and households from villages in Thrissur, Malappuram and Kannur districts of Kerala. The samples were examined for antileptospiral antibodies by microscopic agglutination test (MAT) using 12 serovars viz.
