  • The previous studies on technical efficiency (TE) of the soft drinks industry in Malaysia are still under consideration from other industries and existing studies discuss the industry in general. In fact, there is a previous study using industry-level data and does not consider the determinants of technical inefficiency determining the TE level. The purpose of this study is to identify the technical efficiency level and the technical inefficiency of the soft drinks manufacturing industry in Malaysia by 2015 using cross-section data of 118 firms obtained from the Department of Statistics (DOS).

  • Efficiency analysis of bus transit at the route level is critical to understand the existing performance of individual routes within a bus system and identify operational problems as well as effectively optimise their performance. This article applies the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to examine the performance of 38 bus routes in Hanoi, Vietnam. The results indicated the best and the inefficient bus routes within the given sample and identified the internal sources of inefficiency, including: number of stops and vehicles.

  • An investigation was carried out on sandy loam soils of tarai regions of Uttarakhand to analyze the potential of drip irrigation along with mulch technically as well as economically. The treatments of the study were comprised of four irrigation levels (0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 P.E) with mulch (silver/ black-100 micron) and non-mulch conditions along with control (100% P.E). The study revealed that drip irrigation along with mulch showed better performance in terms of yield, water use efficiency as well as economics. Maximum yield of 18.72 t/ha along with maximum net return of Rs 213990.

  • In recent years, a profound transformation has been observed in the eating habits of the populations of African cities, induced by accelerated socioeconomic and demographic growth. In Senegal, these changes have manifested in the proliferation of collective informal catering enterprises, such as the ‘dibiteries’, where the roasted meat of sheep is prepared and sold. The rise of the average household income has contributed substantially to increasing levels of meat consumption, leading to the expansion of the dibiteries.

  • There has been a growing gap between the demand for maize and its supply. One of the reasons often attributed to decline in maize productivity is poor production practices, awareness and characterized by low use of modern inputs. In order to avoid the lack of all the above to assess the current levels of technical efficiency of maize cultivation like spacing of Maize cultivation with effective management of irrigation practices could be taken as a study.

  • Technical efficiency, credit risk, monetary risk, systematic and unsystematic risk This paper uses production frontier model to generate and analyse the technical efficiency scores for the banks in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries. A sample of 52 banks is selected for the study. Three stages of analysis are adopted. At the first stage, the technical efficiency is analysed between countries to derive variations of between banks from one country to another. It’s found that Kuwaiti and Emirati banks are regionally best performers.

  • This paper employs Data Envelopment Analysis to examine the relative efficiency for Vietnamese banks from 2008 to 2015. Efficiency level is relatively high and remains stable over the examined period, suggesting the banking system is less affected by the global financial crisis. More specifically, technical efficiency and scale efficiency in Vietnamese banking is examined when controlling for problem loans. We suggest that controlling for the exogenous impact of problem loans is important for joint-stock banks.

  • The overall goal of this thesis is to define, measure, estimate and decompose the technical efficiency at bank level (for the main study) and the allocative efficiency at branch level (for the pilot study) of Vietnamese banks during the financial liberalisation period by applying both parametric methods and non-parametric methods (data envelopment analysis, or DEA). The two-stage model DEA method is applied in the thesis for two specific stages of banking business (the production stage and the intermediation stage).

  • he Kenyan financial institutions structure has changed for the last two decades. The commercial banks have undergone incredible development. The study attempts to investigate technical efficiency of Kenyan commercial banks during 2004-2013 by using a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results suggests that the degree of technical efficiency was found to be lower which indicates that the inefficiency is due to producing at an inefficient scale level rather than producing below the production frontier.

  • This study investigates the interrelationships among bank efficiency, capital, and risk in Vietnamese banking between 2007 and 2011 by using the three-stage least squares in a simultaneous equations framework. The efficiency scores of individual banks are obtained from the Data Envelopment Analysis with the use of financial ratios. The average efficiency level of Vietnamese banks is relatively low, suggesting that there is a room for Vietnamese banks to further improve their efficiency so as to achieve world best practice.

  • This paper tries to analyze Chinese three types of bank’s efficiency changes and differences, after the financial crisis, through the integrated use of DEA and super efficiency DEA method. The results show that: the efficiency of Chinese commercial Banks in general is on the rise, the comprehensive technical efficiency growth stems mainly from scale efficiency improvement, pure technical efficiency is stagnant, and scale efficiency presents convergence among all kinds of banks, while the technical level is the core strength of banks’ current and future competition.

  • Energy storage systems (ESSs) have experienced a very rapid growth in recent years and are expected to be a promising tool in order to improving power system reliability and being economically efficient. The ESSs possess many potential benefits in various areas in the electric power systems. One of the main benefits of an ESS, especially a bulk unit, relies on smoothing the load pattern by decreasing on-peak and increasing off-peak loads, known as load leveling. These devices require new methods and tools in order to model and optimize their effects in the power system studies.
