The photoperiod and temperature sensitivity of the onset of flowering in 106 soybean accessions from the VIR collection has been studied for 8 years in a vegetation experiment in the conditions of Leningrad Province at 59°N, the northernmost point of soybean evaluation in the world. The accessions were previously field-assessed for the ability to form fully developed seeds in this region. The experimental conditions were extreme for soybean in terms of both photoperiod and heat supply.

The cucumber is one of the most important vegetables worldwide and is used as a research model for study of phloem transport, sex determination and temperature-photoperiod physiology. The shoot apex is the most important plant tissue in which the cell fate and organ meristems have been determined. In this study, a series of whole-genome small RNA, degradome and transcriptome analyses were performed on cucumber shoot apical tissues treated with high vs. low temperature and long vs. short photoperiod.

DNA methyltransferase (DMT) genes contribute to plant stress responses and development by de novo establishment and subsequent maintenance of DNA methylation during replication. The photoperiod and/or temperature-sensitive genic male sterile (P/TGMS) lines play an important role in hybrid seed production of wheat.

Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) undergoes winter dormancy by sensing photoperiod and temperature changes. It transitions to winter dormancy in early fall following at the end of reproduction and exits dormancy in the spring.

Sex manipulation is attributed to alter the ratio of male to female flowers within the individuals. A wide range of variation in sex forms ranging from primitive hermaphrodite to gynoecious advanced sex form is observed in cucurbitaceous vegetable crops. Sex expression in cucurbitaceae family is regulated by environmental, genetic and hormonal factors. In general, female sex expression is promoted by low temperature and short photoperiod, which may influence the level of endogeneous hormones (ethylene, auxin and GA) which in turn influence the sex expression.

To study the effect of different temperature and photoperiod regimes on tocopherol content, seventeen photo and thermo tolerant soybean genotypes were planted under three planting dates viz., March 1(D1), June 5 (D2) and August 7 (D3). Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for genotypes, environments and genotype x environment interaction for tocopherol content.

A field experiment was carried out at the experimental farm of SASRD, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University, during October, 2010 to May, 2011 using Randomized Block Design to evaluate the integrated effect of chemical fertilizers, organic manures and biofertilizers on yield and quality of chilli under the foothill condition of Nagaland. Results of the twelve treatment combination field experiment revealed that integrated application of chemical fertilizers, organic manures and biofertilizers significantly increased the yield and quality, characters of chilli over control.

Flowers open at sunrise and close at sunset, establishing a circadian floral movement rhythm to facilitate pollination as part of reproduction. By the coordination of endogenous factors and environmental stimuli, such as circadian clock, photoperiod, light and temperature, an appropriate floral movement rhythm has been established; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

The relationship of temperature and photoperiod was studied under laboratory conditions relative to termination of diapause in Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders). For this experiment two different photoperiods (12 and 16 h) each at two different temperature regimes (25 and 35oC) regimes at 70% RH were maintained in walk in growth chamber to study the effect of all these stimuli on the termination of diapause in the pink bollworm.

Rates of growth and sexual maturation of Mongolian gerbils vary in response to photoperiod. Previous work has shown that the responses of the testes and body weight of juvenile and adult gerbils are influenced not only by the photoperiods but also by other factors.

The photoperiodic sensitivity and storage of Orius majusculus (Reuter) from Antalya was investigated to obtain data for the optimization of its release. In the current study, it was not possible to induce a high (up to 100%) incidence of diapause unless all the nymphal instars and adults were successively exposed (i.e. full exposure) to a short day length (11.5 h) at constant temperatures of 18 and 26 °C, and fluctuating temperatures of 10/26 °C.

There are several other reasons why sponges are a model laboratory organism to explore the biological consequences of environmental pollution. For the purposes of ease of set-up, freshwater sponges represent a cost- and time-effective study organism. Gemmules grow relatively quickly (within 3-5 days) and require very little equipment to grow. All of our sponges were grown in 24- well tissue culture plates.
