Acute lung injury (ALI) and its severe form acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are respiratory failures caused by excessive alveolar inflammation with high mortality. In this study, we investigated the effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on lung injury of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and explored the associated mechanisms. BMSCs were isolated, cultured, identified by staining with CD34 and CD44 surface markers.

The ratio of T helper 1 (Th1) to T helper 2 (Th2) as well as T helper 17 (Th17) to regulatory T cells (Treg) represents the state and direction of immune response. Recent studies demonstrated that dexmedetomidine reduced the secretion of inflammatory cytokines.

The pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) involves degeneration of dopaminergic neurons, which is influenced by innate and adaptive immunity. IL-17 is a characteristic cytokine secreted by Th17 cells, which acts as a powerful stimulator of neutrophil migration and infiltration and promotes the secretion of inflammatory cytokines. General anesthesia and surgical stress induce immune and inflammatory responses that activate the immunosuppressive mechanism in the perioperative period.

Surgery-related pain and opioids might exacerbate immune defenses in immunocompromised cancer patients which might affect postoperativd overall survival. Sufentanil is a good postoperative pain control drug, the present study aimed to figure out whether it effect T cell immunity in rat hepatocellular carcinoma surgical model.

Interleukin-27 (IL-27) is a multifunctional cytokine with both pro-inflammatory and immunoregulatory functions. At present, the role of IL-27 in pulmonary fibrosis remains unknown. This study demonstrates that IL-27 potentially attenuates BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis by regulating Th17 differentiation and cytokine secretion.

The pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS), a highly prevalent disease, is not completely understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the contributions of Th17 cells and the Th17-associated cytokines IL-17A and IL-17 F to OSAHS.

Th17 cells are believed to be important proinflammatory cells in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Recent evidence demonstrates that Th17 cells display substantial developmental plasticity, giving rise to Th17/Th1 cells that secret both IL-17 and IFN-γ and are more pathogenic in inflammatory diseases.

The balance between Th17 cells and regulatory T (Treg) cells has been shown to play an important role in the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recent studies have shown that treatment with abatacept (ABT) or tocilizumab (TCZ) affects Th17 and Treg cell populations.

Since its discovery in 1989, hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has become a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide with 14.7% prevalence in Egypt. There is increasing body of evidence that chronic HCV infection is usually associated with several extrahepatic manifestations. Several studies have shed light on the association of autoimmune thyroiditis (ATD) and type 1 diabetes (T1D) with chronic HCV infection as both are considered to be one of the most common organ specific autoimmune disease frequently occur together.

The revolution of Epigenetics mechanisms including mi-RNA, DNA methylation and histone modification has drawn our attention to target Th17 cell regulatory cytokines and transcription factors which in turn will inhibit the production of interleukin 17 (IL17)- as it’s the key proinflammatory cytokine secreted by TH17 cells.

Nearly all uterine cervical cancer (UCC) cases result from human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. After high-risk HPV infection, most HPV infections are naturally cleared by humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. Thus, cervical lesions of only few patients progress into cervical cancer via cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and lead to persistent oncogenic HPV infection.

Recently, it is found that T-helper (Th) 22 cells are involved in different types of autoimmune and tumor diseases. But, till now, no study has been carried out to understand the involvement of these cells in cervical cancer (CC).

Colorectal cancer is a major public health issue worldwide. Interleukin-17 (IL-17) and Th17 (T-helper cell type 17)-related molecules are involved in tumor development and in resistance to bevacizumab, an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monoclonal antibody used in association with chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer.

The valuable role of immunotherapy in treating autoimmune diseases is increasingly recognized by those involved in the research and clinical application of new biopharmaceuticals products. However, many aspects related to the mechanisms of immune-modulated therapies remain to be elucidated in order to explore fully the emerging opportunities.

Interleukin-17 (IL-17), the characteristic cytokine secreted by T helper 17 lymphocytes (Th17 cells), plays a pivotal role in host defense and many inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to obtain purified protein caprine IL-17A (cIL-17A) as an antigen for preparing an IL-17A-specific monoclonal antibody (mAb).

Extensively disturbance of regulatory T cells - Th17 cells balance in stage II pulmonary sarcoidosis
Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disorder characterized by granulomas. Not enough evidences correlate the derangement of CD4+ T subsets, which have an impact on the therapeutic effects of corticosteroids, with the radiographical staging of sarcoidosis. Here we show the disturbance of CD4+ T subsets in newly diagnosed stage II pulmonary sarcoidosis, which is the most common stage in which corticosteroids treatment is used.

In the kidney, Th17 effector cells have been demonstrated in biopsy samples in human glomerulonephritis (Abdulahad et al. 2009) and may participate in the pathogenesis of proliferative glomerulonephritis via production of IL-17 and direct induction of renal inflammation (Kim et al. 2009; Miossec et al. 2009; Turner et al. 2010; Kitching and Holdsworth 2011). Recent studies utilizing genetically engineered mice showed that RORγt promotes the development of crescentic glomerulonephritis by directing nephritogenic Th17 responses (Steinmetz et al. 2011) .

Recently, Th17 cells were identified as a new subset of T helper cells unrelated to Th1 or Th2 cells. They are a subset of T helper cells characterized by IL-17 production, differentiated from naïve T cells in the presence of both transforming growth factor (TGF)-β and IL-6 in mice, and are implicated in the pathogenesis of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) and collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) (Langrish et al. 2005).
