Due to the lack of statistical power and confounding effects of population structure in human population data, genotype-environment interaction studies have not yielded promising results and have provided only limited knowledge for exploring how genotype and environmental factors interact to in their influence onto risk.

Compared to proteins, glycans, and lipids, much less is known about RNAs on the cell surface. We develop a series of technologies to test for any nuclearencoded RNAs that are stably attached to the cell surface and exposed to the extracellular space, hereafter called membrane-associated extracellular RNAs (maxRNAs).

The purified L-asparaginase is monomeric with a molecular mass of 57 kDa and exhibited optimum activity at pH 7.5 and 37 °C, which is relatively close to the human body's internal environment. The purified Lasparaginase showed high affinity and catalytic efficiency towards its natural substrate L-asparagine with Km and Vmax of 1.2 mM and 71.3 U/mL, respectively, and did not exhibit any intrinsic glutaminase activity

Biofilm is a large collection of colonies containing sessile bacteria which are adhered onto the surface and embedded in the self produced biopolymers such as Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS). The surface may be present either in soil or aquatic system as well as in any medical devices or living tissue. These polymeric substances form a cohesive network that interconnects and immobilizes the biofilm cells helping them in mechanical stability.

Membrane proteins represent over 25 % of human protein genes and account for more than 60 % of drug targets due to their accessibility from the extracellular environment. The increasing number of available crystal structures of these proteins in the Protein Data Bank permits an initial estimation of their structural properties.

Galectin-3 is a multifunctional β-galactoside-binding lectin that once synthesized, is expressed in the nucleus, cytoplasm, cell surface and in the extracellular environment. Because of its unique structure, galectin-3 can oligomerize forming lattice upon binding to multivalent oligossacharides and influence several pathologic events such as tumorigenesis, invasion and metastasis.

The present study successfully produced cold-active protease which may have novel properties to degrade protein based wastes which can contribute in cleaning of environment at cold regions without harming the climate and also can be used in various detergent, textile, food and beverage industries effectively. The present study is the first report on Pseudomonas gessardii isolated from Nella Lake, Antarctica producing cold active protease

Almost all of the extracellular matrix (ECM) components can be degraded by the endoproteinases matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Important regulators of MMPs, and thereby of the extracellular environment, are tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), and especially TIMP-1.

One of the most important properties of the protease enzyme is to degrade the biofilm because removal of biofilms is very difficult. In industrial settings, both the inactivation and removal of biofilms are of huge concern. If only disinfection without the removal of attached biofilms occurs, the inactivated biofilm cells may provide an ideal environment for further adhesion and growth, resulting in a complex matrix. Microbial resistance to biocides and their negative environmental impact are the main reasons for finding alternative biofilm control strategies.

The multipotency of scaffolds is a new concept. Skeletal muscle acellular scaffolds (MAS) implanted at the interface of Tibialis Anterior/tibial bone and masseter muscle/mandible bone in a murine model were colonized by muscle cells near the host muscle and by bone-cartilaginous tissues near the host bone, thus highlighting the importance of the environment in directing cell homing and differentiation.

In this study, an extracellular alkali-thermostable phytase producing bacteria, Bacillus subtilis B.S.46, were isolated and molecularly identified using 16S rRNA sequencing. Response surface methodology was applied to study the interaction effects of assay conditions to obtain optimum value for maximizing phytase activity. The optimization resulted in 137% (4.627 U/mL) increase in phytase activity under optimum condition (56.5 C, pH 7.30 and 2.05 mM sodium phytate). The enzyme also showed 60–73% of maximum activity at wide ranges of temperature (47–68 C), pH (6.3–8.

Uric acid is a key product of the metabolism of purines, the backbone of Desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Being a fundamental component of every living cell, the total Earth’s DNA base pairs is estimated to weigh 50 billion tons [1], which translates into a huge abundance of uric acid in our planet. It would be naive to think of all these virtual heaps of uric acid as useless, inert waste produces. Indeed, they are not. Uric acid in the environment is a rich source of nitrogen (33% of its weight) to plant life, hence its important role in the universal food chain.

Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND) is a widespread disease targeting cultured shrimps, which results in heavy losses in many regions around the world including Vietnam. The causative agent of the disease is Vibrio paraheamolyticus which is a Gram-negative bacterium present ubiquitously in marine environment. However, this normal floral organism once acquired a plasmid containing Pir- toxin encoding gene (AHPND plasmid) can transform into a highly toxic strain (AHPND strain) with the ability to kill a large number of cultured shrimps in a short period.

In order to analyze yeasts that produce industrial compounds, it is essential to identify them accurately. Yarrowia lipolytica is one of the most extensively studied “nonconventional” yeasts, being a strictly aerobic microorganism capable of producing important metabolites and having an intense secretory activity, which justifies efforts to use it in industry (as a biocatalyst), in molecular biology, and in studies of genetics.
