In this thesis, the rolling contact wear of 52100 bearing steel and Over-aged Magnesia-Partially-Stabilised Zirconia (OA-Mg-PSZ) ceramic are examined using a newly developed rolling contact wear test rig. The new wear test rig simulates the system geometry of an un-lubricated hybrid (ceramic and steel) ball bearing. The new wear test rig is versatile in that it allows low cost samples to be utilised resulting in a larger number of samples that can be tested.

This paper seeks to draw together ideas from different sources to place washback in the context of other possibilities. The concepts of adaptive implementation and programmed implementation are taken from Henrichsen’s hybrid model of the diffusion/implementation of innovation in education systems. Washback is shown to act in parallel to but distinct from programmed implementation. The picture is completed with van Lier’s concept of wash-forward, first outlined in 1989 but subsequently neglected in the literature.

This paper presents a hybrid method that combines the genetic algorithm (GA) and the ant colony system algorithm (ACS), namely GACS, to solve the traffic routing problem. In the proposed framework, we use the genetic algorithm to optimize the ACS parameters in order to attain the best trips and travelling time through several novel functions to help ants to update the global and local pheromones.

Pre-requisite for any plant biotechnological approach is development of an efficient plant regeneration system in that crop. In this regard the in vitro regeneration was achieved by using cotyledon explants from aseptically raised seedlings of popular Capsicum F1 hybrids Bharat and Indra. Seeds of both hybrids were exposed to different treatments for proper germination, were decontaminated and sown in vitro on half-strength MS medium.
