  • The study was conducted to evaluate the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on tax avoidance in Vietnam, when having moderating effect of chief executive officers’ power (CEO power). The study uses a data sample of 499 listed non-financial companies in the period 2016 to 2022 with 3,493 observations. We use the feasible generalized least squares model to assess the impact of CSR with the moderating effect of CEO power on tax avoidance.

  • This study examines 265 Malaysian listed firms for year 2015 (during) and 2016 (after) GST implementation period. The OLS regression results report that there is significant relationship of corporate governance in firm operating performance particularly during and after GST implementation. Board independent, CEO age and family CEO have positively contribute to sales growth during and after GST implementation. For working capital effectiveness during and after GST implementation, the CEO age and family CEO delineate significant positive association with operating performance (current ratio).

  • The study examines the impact of CEO foreign experience on firm performance and the effect of CEO tenure on this relation in the Vietnamese market. Using a unique, handcollected dataset of non-financial firms listed on the Ho Chi Minh stock exchange (HOSE) over the period from 2013 to 2021, we find that firms led by CEOs with overseas experience tend to have higher performance as compared to their counterparts.

  • This article analyzes the impact of CEO’s education on firm financial performance by using data of 462 firms listed on both Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi Stock Exchange from 2011-2017. In general, a CEO with Master’s Degree has a positive impact of on firm financial performance, thus suggesting that educational level of CEO’s has impact on the firm’s success. Surprisingly, the Doctor's Degree of CEO negatively influences the firm performance measured by the market value (Tobin’s Q) and firm’s profitability (ROA) is positively affected if CEO has a Engineering Degree.

  • One-in-three CEOs of Chinese manufacturing firms are engineers. Firms led by CEOs with professional certifications in engineering, are associated with greater innovation quality, indicating that on-the-job training in engineering produces human capital which fosters innovation. In addition, firms with Engineer CEOs don’t spend more on R&D comparing to others, which argues against the “functionally biased perception theory”. The result is more pronounced when CEOs have senior-level professional certifications in engineering.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of board size and the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) duality on the value of Canadian manufacturing firms. A sample of 91 Canadian manufacturing firms listed on Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) for a period of 3 years [from 2008-2010] was selected. The co-relational and non-experimental research design was used to conduct this study.   • Culture plays an important role in affecting corporate behaviors when formal institutions fall short. Using China's A-share listed companies as a sample, we analyze the impact of Chinese alcohol culture on corporate rent-seeking behavior. We find that firms in regions in which alcohol plays a more prominent role show more rent-seeking expense. The results are still robust when we use the regional gender ratio and temperature as instruments. It is further found that a high level of alcohol culture in CEOs’ home region significantly enhances rent-seeking expense.
