Semantic extraction from images is a topical problem and is applied in many different semantic retrieval systems. In this paper, a method of image semantic retrieval is proposed based on a set of images similar to the input image. Since then, the semantics of the image are queried on the ontology by the visual word vector.

Semantic matching has received much attention in the database, AI, KDD, Web, and Semantic Web communities. Recently, many works have also applied deep learning (DL) to semantic matching. In this paper we survey this fast growing topic. We define the semantic matching problem, categorize its variations into a taxonomy, and describe important applications. We describe DL solutions for important variations of semantic matching. Finally, we discuss future R&D directions.

Ontological concepts are useful for many different biomedical tasks. Concepts are difficult to recognize in text due to a disconnect between what is captured in an ontology and how the concepts are expressed in text. There are many recognizers for specific ontologies, but a general approach for concept recognition is an open problem.

Protein function prediction is to assign biological or biochemical functions to proteins, and it is a challenging computational problem characterized by several factors: (1) the number of function labels (annotations) is large; (2) a protein may be associated with multiple labels; (3) the function labels are structured in a hierarchy; and (4) the labels are incomplete.

The ability to query many independent biological databases using a common ontology-based semantic model would facilitate deeper integration and more effective utilization of these diverse and rapidly growing resources. Despite ongoing work moving toward shared data formats and linked identifiers, significant problems persist in semantic data integration in order to establish shared identity and shared meaning across heterogeneous biomedical data sources.

Classification of biological samples of gene expression data is a basic building block in solving several problems in the field of bioinformatics like cancer and other disease diagnosis and making a proper treatment plan. One big challenge in sample classification is handling large dimensional and redundant gene expression data.

The paper is concerned with methodological problems of search of new ways of reformation for space engineering education. The problems of renewal of the content of course units and educational forms are of special relevance in the field of education of specialists in design of small and ultra small spacecrafts. Renewal of educational forms is frequently associated with the choice between the pragmatic and ontological approaches in education.

Human resource managers are confronted with the problem that they have to fulfil the enterprise’s competence needs either by developing their current staff or by recruiting new employees. In both cases decisions about who to select for the new position and more often which competences are crucial for the future success. This is especially true for highly dynamic industries like the IT industry. This article presents our work from the KoPIWA project in the Digital Economy.

Finding underlying molecular mechanisms of diseases is one of the important issues in biomedical research. In which, prediction of novel disease-associated genes is mostly focused. Many methods have been proposed based on biological networks and shown effectively for the problem.

Enormous amount of available data in relational database (RDB) format creates a demand for automatic transforming them into Web Ontology Language (OWL) ontology to reuse in the Semantic Web. Many approaches have been proposed, however, most of them simply generate output ontology as the same flat structure with the original database and result in redundancy of ontology data. As an attempt to resolve the redundant problem, we propose a novel approach to generate OWL ontology from relational database while focusing on the similarity measure of duplicate attributes in relational tables.

Research subjects of the thesis are ontology, inconsistent knowledge in ontologies and methods of processing inconsistent knowledge in ontologies. By analyzing research motivations, we address objectives of research for processing inconsistent in ontologies by the two tasks: querying andintegrating. In particularly, we restrict the objectives of research by three problems following: determine meaningful result for querying inconsistent ontology, resolving conflict of concept level in ontology integration, esolving conflict of axiom level in ontology integration.

This paper deals with the problem of handling semantic heterogeneity during schema integration. We present an approach on the basis of formal ontologies presented in a logical language to identification of relationship between different local schemas. Semantic similarity relations between definitions in formal ontologies are defined, verified and used for merging formal ontologies. It is found that the result of the merging process can be used for global schema generation.

To facilitate work in discourse interpretation, the logical form of English sentences should be both close to English and syntactically simple. In this paper i propose s logical notation which is first-order and uonintensional, sad for which semantic tnmslation can be naively compositional. The key move is to expand what kinds of entities one allows in one's ontology, rather than complicating the logical notation, the logical form of sentences, or the semantic translation process.

Automatic key phrase extraction is fundamental to the success of many recent digital library applications and semantic information retrieval techniques and a difficult and essential problem in Vietnamese natural language processing (NLP). In this work, we propose a novel method for key phrase extracting of Vietnamese text that exploits the Vietnamese Wikipedia as an ontology and exploits specific characteristics of the Vietnamese language for the key phrase selection stage.

Broad-coverage semantic annotations for training statistical learners are only available for a handful of languages. Previous approaches to cross-lingual transfer of semantic annotations have addressed this problem with encouraging results on a small scale. In this paper, we scale up previous efforts by using an automatic approach to semantic annotation that does not rely on a semantic ontology for the target language.

A robust dictionary of semantic frames is an essential element of natural language understanding systems that use ontologies. However, creating lexical resources that accurately capture semantic representations en masse is a persistent problem. Where the sheer amount of content makes hand creation inefficient, computerized approaches often suffer from over generality and difficulty with sense disambiguation.

Crowther (1993: 3) provides a criticism of accounts that attempt to detail the interaction between agent and environment. He maintains that any description of the ontological reciprocity of agent and context inevitably will be fragmentary and distorted, because pre-reflective reciprocity cannot be captured in words. However that may be, TSC sidesteps the problem by using DST to shed light on the reciprocity of agent and context.

One problem with this teaching demonstration, however, was the fact that the 16mm print of Caligari had no musical soundtrack, something that the stu- dents had become accustomed to having with their silent films during the semes- ter. This factor would ultimately lead to subsequent demonstrations testing the notion of whether modern electronic music could be used to enhance student engagement with silent films in the classroom.

Meinong is nowadays principally remembered as an ontologist, his ideas valued as anticipations of work in rather deviant fields of logic and semantics. The Meinongian ontology was not, however, developed for its own sake, and its logical and semantic implications were far from being uppermost in Meinong's mind.
