The proposed approximate theory

Xem 1-10 trên 10 kết quả The proposed approximate theory
  • A unified higher-order shear deformation theory for static analysis of laminated composite beams is proposed in this paper. The theory is based on a higher-order shear deformation beam theory in which a general shear function is proposed. The characteristic equations are derived from Lagrange’s equations and then Ritz method is used to determine the stiffness matrix.

  • The paper presents a dynamic analysis of train-track systems supported by viscoelastic foundations by combining Timoshenko’s beam theory and moving element method (MEM). In the proposed method, a three-node beam element is utilized to get a high order approximation for the deflection of Timoshenko beam. The reduced integral method is applied in order to avoid the shear-locking phenomenon when computing the shear strain energy of the rail beam.

  • Fractional calculus (FC) is widely used in many interdisciplinary branches of science due to its effectiveness in describing and investigating complicated phenomena. In this work, nonlinear dynamics for a new physical model using nonlocal fractional differential operator with singular kernel is introduced. New Routh-Hurwitz stability conditions are derived for the fractional case as the order lies in [0,2). The new and basic Routh-Hurwitz conditions are applied to the commensurate case. The local stability of the incommensurate orders is also discussed.

  • The far-field vertical displacements are compared with calculations obtained by the boundary element method (BEM) for circular, rectangular, triangular and arbitrary-shaped defects. Comparisons between the theoretical and BEM results, which are graphically displayed, are in excellent agreement. It is also discussed the limitations of the proposed approximate theory.

  • In this paper, we introduce a hedge-algebras-based methodology in vibration control of structural systems to design fuzzy controllers, referred to as hedge-algebras-based controllers (HACs). In this methodology, vague linguistic terms are not expressed by fuzzy sets, but by inherent order relationships between vague terms existing in a term-domain. Semantically quantifying mappings (SQMs), which preserve semantics-based order relationships in termdomains, are defined in a close relationship with the fuzziness measure and the fuzziness intervals of vague terms.

  • This paper proposes the adoption of Monte Carlo perturbation theory to approximate the Jacobian matrix of coupled neutronics/thermal-hydraulics problems. The projected Jacobian is obtained from the eigenvalue decomposition of the fission matrix, and it is adopted to solve the coupled problem via the Newton method.

  • A new supersymmetry is proposed for hadrons containing a single heavy quark. This supersymmetry is based on a new approximation to those hadrons, which we would consider as a further step beyond the spectator light diquark model of baryons. The heavy diquark effective theory is constructed by the techniques introduced in a different context by Georgi and Wise [1] and by Carone [2]. This theory can be incorporated into a supersymmetric theory together with Heavy Quark Effective Theory, and leads to a common universal Isgur-Wise function for mesons and baryons.

  • Languages differ in the concepts and real-world entities for which they have words and grammatical constructs. Therefore translation must sometimes be a m a t t e r of approximating the meaning of a source language text rather than finding an exact counterpart in the target language. We propose a translation framework based on Situation Theory. The basic ingredients are an information lattice, a representation scheme for utterances embedded in contexts, and a mismatch resolution scheme defined in terms of information flow.

  • A couple years ago, two of my colleagues independently proposed approximately the same title for their respective contributions to a series of lunchtime talks: “Why Erving Goffman Is My Hero (and Should Be Yours, Too).” I emerged from these two lunches mightily impressed – both by Goffman’s (1959) insights into The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life and by the potential for Goffman’s micro-sociological research to inspire a major new research stream in behavioral game theory.

  • This volume has two first authors because it is a result of very intensive teamwork between the two authors. We have had three brainstorm meetings, each of approximately one week’s duration. There have been numerous pingpong games (questions–answers–new proposals etc.) on the Internet. All the chapters have major contributions from both of us. We hope that the volume therefore demonstrates a synergistic effect, reflecting the positive teamwork that is behind the volume.
