This study aimed to investigate the levels of contamination of potentially toxic trace elements in the soil of Dong Nai Province, Vietnam. To achieve this, the Instrument Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) method was employed to measure the concentrations of five potentially toxic trace elements, including manganese (Mn), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), antimony (Sb), and zinc (Zn), across 30 soil samples collected from the region.

Spatially resolved optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) offers a means for rapid assessment of dose distributions in retrospective dosimetry and geochronology. Until recently, OSL imaging systems have largely been restricted to measurements of millimetre scale samples; this approach is not well suited for applications where the physical process of interest operates on centimetre scale (e.g., depth dependent trap eviction in exposed rocks, sediment mixing in soils, attenuation of gamma radiation, etc.).

We examined the soil fauna community composition and structure of Poyang Lake beach wetlands using the modified Tullgren and Baermann methods during September and December 2015. A total of 3755 individuals were obtained from 2 samplings, which were found to belong to 7 classes, 8 orders, 3 suborders, and 17 families. Among these, the Oribatida, Prostigmata, Nematoda, and Onychiuridae were dominant. The functional groups of soil animals included omnivores, saprozoics, predators, and phytophages.

An alternative rapid digestion method has been developed for the determination of tungsten (W) in soil samples using fractionation studies and response surface methodology. The digestion method using the Kjeldahl instrument was applied to samples, and soluble tungsten was determined via inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Digestion parameters were selected depending on the results of fractionation studies and optimized using a four-factor and five-level central composite design.

The Knowledge of spatial-variability is critical for site specific nutrient management in soil fertility. Soil sample (149) were gotten from surface from 10 selected sites for preparing precise digital maps using point, line and polygon tools of the GIS (TNTmips 2010) software. Soil spatial variability typically defines variation in soil properties in surface soil such as fertility, pH, EC, soil organic carbon (OC), free CaCO3, mineralizable N,P2O5, K2O and S.

A study was conducted during April 2016 to assess the different physical and chemical properties of the soil of Kaipad tracts. The Kaipad tracts, characterized by the unique saline hydromorphic soil covers the north Malabar districts of Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. As a part of the investigation, representative surface soil samples were collected from 15 selected locations of Kaipad areas comprising of Muttil and Cherukunnu (Fig. 1) panchayath during the first week of April 2016 to assess the different physical and chemical properties.

Soil pH, EC and Organic Carbon are the essential parameters used as the primary level health status of the soils. In this context, detailed study over soil pH, EC and OC was done for different panchayats of Sabour block of Bhagalpur district. 80 composite surface soil samples (0-15cm) using GPS receiver from different location of fourteen Panchayats of Sabour block were collected during the months of May and June, 2019.

An investigation was carried out to study the soil physico-chemical properties of the sweet orange orchards in YSR district of Andhra Pradesh. To prosecute this investigation, fifty sweet orange orchards aged between 12 to 13 years were selected and soil samples were collected from these orchards at 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm depth. Soil reaction of study area varied widely. Majority of the surface soils samples (72%) were mildly alkaline, but at 30-60 cm depth 48% were strongly alkaline, 38% were moderately alkaline and 14% were mildly alkaline in pH. All the orchards were non-saline in nature.

The surface (0-15 cm) soil samples were used for analyzing the soil properties. The soil properties were determined using soil analytical methods given by Jackson (1973). Organic carbon content determined by wet digestion method of Walkley and Black, available nitrogen (N) by Kjeldahl’s method, available phosphorous (P) by Bray and Kurtz method and available potassium (K) by flame photometric method. The data collected on various parameters have been statistically analysed as per the method of Panse and Sukhatme (1978).

The study was conducted to know the soil fertility status of different cropping systems in hill zone acid soils of Karnataka. In each cropping systems, samples were collected from two depths (0-15 cm and 15-30 cm) at 20 locations randomly. Soil characterization revealed that soils were slightly acidic to moderately acidic in range with low soluble salts. Surface soils under paddy cropping system recorded higher exchangeable Al3+ and exchangeable acidity compared to coffee and areca cropping system.

An attempt has been made to explore different types of algae from Panikhaiti area of Guwahati, Assam using Winogradsky column. In order to prepare Winogradsy column, soil and water samples were collected from different locations. A transparent, clear plastic bottle was taken and filled with 500g of soil and over layered with 500ml of water sample. The columns were enriched with different carbon and nitrogen supplements. They were covered with plastic sheets and few holes were punctured on them. These were incubated at room temperature (±28°C) in presence of sunlight.
