Midazolam is frequently used for sedation during spinal anesthesia. However, external environmental factors, such as bright surgical lights, may hamper patient relaxation, which may lead to an increase in the dose of midazolam required and the likelihood of adverse drug effects. The IPCC’s Third Assessment Report (2001) projects an increase in average world surface temperature ranging from 1.4 to 5.8°C over the course of the twenty-first century (see Figure 1.1).
