Ebook "Advances in quantum chemistry: Applications of theoretical methods to atmospheric science (Volume 55)" presents surveys of current developments in this rapidly developing field that falls between the historically established areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. With invited reviews written by leading international researchers, each presenting new results, it provides a single vehicle for following progress in this interdisciplinary area. Theoretical methods have dramatically extended the reach and grasp of atmospheric scientists.

Resolve the neutrino mass problem. Parameterize the parameters in the model 3−2−3−1 to seek for dark matter for each version of the model with q=0 and q=−1. Research for Z1 and Z01 at LEPII and LHC. Survey in detail the mass of gauge bosons, Higgs bosons, flavor-changing neutral current in the model 3−3−3−1 and calculate the branch ratio of the decay process mu - ey, u - 3e in the model.

Using ab-initio calculations at the MP2/6-311G(3df, 2pd), a very high level theory, we obtained minimum energy structures for the C2H5O radical, products and transition states of reactions on the potential energy surface.

Based on the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective action approach, a theoretical formalism is established to study the hydrodynamic instabilities in two-component condensates of Bose gases. The effective potential is found in the Hartree-Fock approximation and this quantity is then used to derive the expression for the pressure, which depends on particle densities.

The structural calculations such as band structure, density of states and optical properties were carried out under the framework of the Density Functional Theory (DFT). A theoretical analysis by computer simulation is expected to clarify the doping effects in detail and compare well with experimental results.

The performance of a microwave absorbing material (MAM) is often characterized by a negative reflection loss (RL) which is due to the material’s strong absorption and weak reflection of electromagnetic radiation. An absolute absorption can theoretically be achieved in a MAM that has equal permittivity and permeability (er=ur) to satisfy the impedance matching condition Z=Z0 (Z and Z0 are the intrinsic impedance of the material and the impedance of incident medium, respectively).

Numerical calculations of the quantities were performed for Fe and W thin films and found to be in good and reasonable agreement with other theoretical results and experimental data. This research proves that thermal expansion coefficients of thin films approach the values of bulk when thin film is about 70 nm thick.

The theoretical results are applied to interstitial alloy AuSi. In the case when the concentration of interstitial atoms is equal to zero, we obtain the thermodynamic quantities of the main metal and the numerical results for alloy AuSi give the numerical results for Au.

The obtained results allow us to determine the melting temperature of alloy ABC at zero pressure and under pressure. In limit cases, we obtain the melting theory of main metal A, substitutional alloy AB and interstitial alloy AC with FCC structure. The theoretical results are numerically applied for alloys AuCuSi and AgCuSi.

The Helmholtz free energy, mean-square atomic displacements and Young’s modulus E are derived in closed analytic forms in terms of the power moments of the atomic displacements. Numerical calculations for Young’s modulus of W and Nb thin films are found to be in good and reasonable agreement with those of other theoretical results and experimental data.

The α - β (fcc-hcp) phase transition temperature under pressure can be investigated theoretically by combining the self-consistent field method and the statistical moment method and only the statistical moment method which was developed by the authors. Theoretical results are applied to N2 and CO molecular cryocrystals and our calculated results are compared with the experimental data and other calculations.

The behavior of bioaerosol particles with various size and shape in the human respiratory tract was simulated by using a probabilistic model of the lung and an almost realistic mathematical approach to particle deposition. Results obtained from the theoretical computations clearly show that biogenic particle deposition in different lung compartments does not only depend on physical particle properties, but also on breathing mode (nose or mouth breathing) and inhalative flow rate (=tidal volume • breathing frequency/30).
