  • This work aimed at improving the solubility of curcumin by the preparation of spray-dried ternary solid dispersions containing Gelucire®50/13-Aerosil® and quantifying the resulting in vivo oral bioavailability and anti-inflammatory activity. The solid dispersion containing 40% of curcumin was characterised by calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The solubility and dissolution rate of curcumin in aqueous HCl or phosphate buffer improved up to 3600- and 7.3-fold, respectively.

  • Several studies have shown the potential use of Ilex paraguariensis in developing products with the aim to protect biological systems against oxidative stress-mediated damages. In the same way, technological studies have demonstrated the feasibility of obtaining dry products, by spray-drying process, from aqueous extracts of I. paraguariensis in laboratory. The present work was designed to develop pellets by extrusion/spheronization process, from an I. paraguariensis spray-dried powder.

  • In this study, high temperature oxidation-resistant NiCr/Al duplex coatings on carbon steel substrate have been fabricated by electrical wire arc-spraying process. The oxidation resistance properties of NiCr/Al duplex coating system have been evaluated at 800 °C during retention times of 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 hours. The morphology and chemical composition of their cross-sectional structures were investigated using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS).

  • Thermal cycling tests showed that the adhesion of the TiC, ZrC, and ZrO2 coating layers with niobium was relatively weak compared to the TaC and Y2O3 coatings. The TaC and Y2O3 coatings had better cycling characteristics with no interconnected cracks. In the interaction studies, ZrC and ZrO2 coated rods showed significant degradations after exposure to U-10 wt.% Zr melt at 1600ºC for 15 min., but TaC, TiC, and Y2O3 coatings showed good compatibility with U-Zr melt.
