During the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pandemic, several patient groups are at particular risk. Mortality is higher among cancer patients and may be increased further by thromboembolic events, which are more common in coronavirus 2019 patients according to recent publications.

Anti−vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) treatment has been associated with an increased risk of thromboembolic events. Therefore, the use of anti−VEGFs for patients with colorectal cancers (CRC) has raised concerns about the potential risk of retinal vein occlusion (RVO), an ocular disease caused by embolism or venous stasis.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) and cancer are strongly associated. In France, evidence on patients with pancreatic, upper GI [gastrointestinal], lower GI, lung, or breast cancer-associated VTE and their hospital manage‑ ment is limited. The aims of this study were to provide data on the number of hospitalized VTE events among cancer patients, the patients’ characteristics, and their hospital management to estimate the burden of disease and the hospital burden of cancer-related VTE and to provide guidance on research.

Intravenous tranexamic acid (IV TXA) is one of the most effective agents in use for reducing blood loss following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) but its safety regarding venous thromboembolic events (VTEs) remains in question.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is an important complication following total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) surgeries. Aim of this study was to comprehensively compare the clinical outcomes of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) with other anticoagulants in patients who underwent TKR or THR surgery.

Although randomized controlled trials have confirmed oral tranexamic acid (TXA) can provide similar blood-sparing efficacy compared with intravenous (IV) TXA in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), some concerns do remain about thromboembolic events after such systemic administration.

Venous thromboembolic co-morbidities can have a significant impact on treatment response, treatment options, quality of life, and ultimately, survival from cancer. The extent of venous thromboembolic comorbidity among older renal cell cancer patients is poorly described in the literature.

Advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients often develop thromboembolic events, including cerebral infarction (CI). However, the relationship between advanced NSCLC and CI has not been thoroughly investigated.

Venous thromboembolic events (VTE) are common in cancer patients and associated with higher mortality. In vivo thrombosis and anticoagulation might be involved in tumor growth and progression.

High rates of venous thromboembolic events (VTEs), mainly in advanced disease, are reported for patients with cancer of the upper gastrointestinal tract (stomach, pancreas) and for treatment with cisplatin.

Concern for cardiovascular disease (particularly atrial fibrillation-AF) among women with breast cancer is becoming a major issue. We aimed at determining the incidence of cardiovascular disease events (AF, arterial and cardiac events, venous-thromboembolism-VTE) in patients diagnosed with breast cancer, and assessing potential risk factors.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is highly prevalent in cancer patients and can cause severe morbidity. VTE treatment is essential, but anticoagulation increases the risk of major bleeding. The purpose was to evaluate the impact of VTE and major bleeding on survival and to identify significant risk factors for these events in lung cancer patients.

Organizations need to consider who their audience will be for an arts event. Organizations should ask themselves, who is our current audience? and, who is our potential audience? Who is our current audience? Current audience members and supporters should always be informed of and invited to events. Maintaining contact with attendees is an easy way to begin building a relationship and loyalty with an audience. Keep a mailing list at all events to collect the contact information of the audience. Any donors or fiscal supporters should always be informed of and invited to events.

Some larger businesses and industrial establishments have medical practitioners, advisors or physicians on site or on payroll. Smaller businesses may not currently staff medical advisors. In preparing your business continuity plan, it is advisable that you ensure access to a medical practitioner or advisor for assistance and advice in the event of a pandemic. If your company already has medical staff on site, they should be made aware of the nature of the disease, how it is transmitted, its symptoms and health care precautions available and appropriate.

This article argues that the crisis of 2007–2008 happened because of an explosive combination of agency problems, moral hazard, and “scientism”—the illusion that ostensibly scientific techniques would manage risks and predict rare events in spite of the stark empirical and theoretical realities that suggested otherwise. The authors analyze the varied behaviors, ideas and effects that in combination created a financial meltdown, and discuss the players responsible for the consequences.

Our results indicate only a significant reaction of interest rate swap spreads to some policy events. Among others, the rumours of the early warning for Portugal and Germany on 17 January led to a decrease of the swap spread for Portugal, pointing to increasing concerns about fiscal developments. In contrast, when the Council declared that Portugal has an excessive deficit on 5 November, swap spreads increased both for Portugal and Germany indicating a possible positive confidence effect.

Stroke, a clinical diagnosis of acute, suddenonset neurological deficit, is one of the main causes of death and permanent disability in the industrialized world. Pathologically the process may be an ischaemic or a haemorrhagic event, or both. About 85% of cerebrovascular accidents result from ischaemia, predominantly secondary to carotid thromboembolism.
