Primary and secondary reconstruction of the thumb is a common reconstructive challenge for the hand and plastic surgeons. Currently, The kite flap or the First dorsal metacarpal artery flap remains the regular choice and is believed to be the best for distal thumb defects, but it’s the first time we have utilized a reverse homodigital dorsal radial flap for the thumb with an expected outcome.

Management of severely angulated Rockwood and Wilkins’ type C (RW-C) thumb metacarpal base fractures in children is challenging. We report experiences of percutaneous leverage reduction and dual antegrade crossing Kirschner (DACK) wire fixation in these fractures, aiming to assess the results using our reduction technique.

We performed an interposition arthroplasty using the abductor pollicis longus tendon for arthrosis in the basal joint of the thumb that needed surgery from 1995 to 2010. In 2001 47 patients (55 thumbs) were reviewed after 3.5 (1–5) years.

Restoration of joint congruity is an important factor for the prevention of subsequent arthritis in patients with Bennett’s fracture. Surgical treatment of Bennett’s fracture is thus generally recommended for displaced intra-articular fractures to the proximal aspect of the thumb metacarpal.
