Rotavator is an efficient tillage implement used for rapid bed preparation and is an energy and time efficient equipment for different soils compared to all other conventional tillage implements. The primary cause that limits the persistence of rotavator is wear of its blades. This paper was undertaken to study the material composition and wear characteristics of austempered ductile iron third edition rotavator blades which were developed by austempering heat process done over cast iron.

This paper was undertaken to study the material composition and wear characteristics of austempered ductile iron third edition (ADI 3rd edition) rotavator blades which were developed by austempering heat process done over cast iron. The objective was carried out by means of elemental analysis and identification of wear pattern of rotavator blades with increase in operational time. The results indicated that the change in material composition responsible for wear characteristics of blades.

A long-term field experiment was conducted to design and implement alternative production systems with increased resource use efficiency, productivity and to determine the effect of tillage systems and mineral fertilizers on soil organic carbon patterns. This experiment intended to evaluate the effects of these management strategies on soil structural formation and structural stabilization of a sandy loam soil. The shift from puddled - transplanted rice on the flat land to raised bed systems affects the productivity and resource use efficiency of the rice-wheat system.

In tillage tools used in India faces problem like, poor soil-tire interface, clod formation, compaction due to heavy traffic and timeliness in operation. Overcome to this practical problem, it was planned to develop a clod crusher cum planker for better seed bed preparation. To achieve this objective a prototype implement consisting of three different types of clod crusher rollers’ like square spike, round spike and spiral arrangement of spike were developed. The developed implement was tested in the field to evaluate its performance.

Availability of draft requirement data of primary and secondary tillage implement is necessary to implement selection, tractor- implement matching and determination of fuel consumption for different tillage systems. In this research, pull type load cell was along with an auxiliary tractor was used to determine the draft requirement of selected tillage implement. It was observed that the draft requirement of Mb plough was maximum at 619 kgf compared to disc plough, disc harrow and cultivator. The draft effecting soil parameters were also determined.
