TiO2 based photocatalysts

This work presents the controlled synthesis of TiO2/graphene photocatalysts by hydrothermal method using TiCl4 as a precursor. The influence of the precursor concentration and the reaction time on the growth of TiO2 nanoparticles on graphene was studied, showing the ability to achieve the catalysts with desired TiO2 loadings and dispersion.

In the present study, titania nanoparticles are highly dispersed on carbon nanotubes via hydrolysis process of tetraisopropyl-orthotitanate Ti[OCH(CH3)2]4 (TPOT). The obtained composite (TiO2/CNTs) is characterized by modern methods. The anatase-TiO2 phase is realized based on X-ray diffraction spectrum at different pHs of hydrolysis solution.

Vanadium doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by solgel and hydrothermal methods. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

In an attempt to extend light absorption of a TiO2-based photocatalyst toward the visible light range, a new type of photocatalyst TiO2/GaN powder was prepared using a simple process. The crystal phase composition, structure and light absorption of the new photocatalysts were comprehensively examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-visible absorption spectra.

The free electrons and holes then involved in decolorization processes through reduction or oxidation reactions. The effects of TiO2 catalyst amounts, irradiation time and polyol concentrations on dye decolorization were investigated. The decolorization efficiency significantly increased with the increasing irradiation time, SED concentrations and certain amounts of TiO2.
