Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is known as the most important vegetable crop that is widely cultivated throughout the world. Improvements of the growth, development, and productivity have become core strategies for the sustainable development of tomato in many countries. Here, we performed an intensive summary of recent applications of genome editing in customizing the growth habits and fruit quality in tomato plants.

This study has been conducted to determine some biological parameters of the Phenacoccus madeirensis Green (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) on four vegetable plants (7 different varieties); tomato (Hazera and Torry) (Solanum lycopersicum L.), eggplant (Adana Topağı and Anamur) (Solanum melongena L.), pepper (Safran and Zafer) (Capsicum annuum L.), and Pepino (Minski) (Solanum muricatum L.). Experiments were carried out in climate cabinets at 25 ± 2 °C, 60 ± 10% R.H.

The aim of this study is to estimate phytochemical constituents and antioxidant activities of tomato slices treated by microwave heating. Two treatments time were applied, 30 and 300 s. Quantitative analyses of phenols, flavonoids, lycopene, followed by the evaluation of the antioxidant activity by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ion chelating methods, were conducted on ethanolic extracts.

In the current work, A. flavus as an herb endophyte was selected to verify its role as plant growth-promoting and protection such as antimicrobial activity, IAA production, phosphorus solubilization and nutritional improvement of the tomato plant. So far, there is no previous investigation has been done on evaluating the potential of A. flavus as tomato plant growth promotion and to control Alternaria early blight disease of tomato.

In the present study it was aimed to obtain novel strains of actinomycetes that have the ability to promote plant growth. For this, seven soil samples from the rhizosphere of Humulus lupulus (Pazaryeri, Bilecik) were used and potential isolates were obtained. 16S rRNA genes of 30 isolates were amplified by PCR and sequenced. Eighteen isolates were found to be closely related to Streptomycetes spp. and they were tested for their proteolytic activity, cellulase activity, phosphate solubility, IAA production, biofilm formation, and growth in nitrogen-limited medium.

Pathogen perception by plants is mediated by plasma membrane-localized immune receptors that have varied extracellular domains. Lectin receptor kinases (LecRKs) are among these receptors and are subdivided into 3 classes, C-type LecRKs (C-LecRKs), L-type LecRKs (L-LecRKs) and G-type LecRKs (G-LecRKs). While C-LecRKs are represented by one or two members in all plant species investigated and have unknown functions, L-LecRKs have been characterized in a few plant species and have been shown to play roles in plant defense against pathogens.

In living organisms, small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) are triggered in response to stress situations. This family of proteins is large in plants and, in the case of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), 33 genes have been identified, most of them related to heat stress response and to the ripening process.

Tomato is an economically important crop with fruits that are a significant source of bioactive compounds such as ascorbic acid and phenolics. Nowadays, the majority of the enzymes of the biosynthetic pathways and of the structural genes controlling the production and the accumulation of antioxidants in plants are known; however, the mechanisms that regulate the expression of these genes are yet to be investigated.

‘Candidatus Phytoplasma solani’ is endemic in Europe and infects a wide range of weeds and cultivated plants. Phytoplasmas are prokaryotic plant pathogens that colonize the sieve elements of their host plant, causing severe alterations in phloem function and impairment of assimilate translocation.

The family of NAC proteins (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) represent a class of large plant-specific transcription factors. However, identification and functional surveys of NAC genes of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) remain unstudied, despite the tomato genome being decoded for several years. This study aims to identify the NAC gene family and investigate their potential roles in responding to Al stress.

Tomato is one of the most important vegetables cultivated in Vietnam. Besides its regular consumption as a vegetable, a new demand for using tomato as a decorative plant on special occasions was identified in recent years. This study aimed to characterize new tomato accessions on their desirable morphological traits to select potential materials for further breeding programs of ornamental tomato varieties in Vietnam.

The tomato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli Šulc (Hemiptera: Triozidae), is a pest of solanaceous crops such as tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in the U.S. and vectors the disease-causing pathogen ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’. Currently, the only effective strategies for controlling the diseases associated with this pathogen involve regular pesticide applications to manage psyllid population density

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that can influence gene expression via diverse mechanisms. Tomato is a fruit widely consumed for its flavor, culinary attributes, and high nutritional quality. Tomato fruit are climacteric and fleshy, and their ripening is regulated by endogenous and exogenous signals operating through a coordinated genetic network.
