  • Ebook "High-resolution electron microscopy (Fourth edition)" retains previous material on the fundamentals of electron optics and aberration correction, linear imaging theory (including wave aberrations to fifth order) with partial coherence, and multiple-scattering theory. Also preserved are updated earlier sections on practical methods, with detailed step-by-step accounts of the procedures needed to obtain the highest quality images of atoms and molecules using a modern TEM or STEM electron microscope.

  • Ebook "Transmission electron microscopy: Physics of image formation (Fifth edition)" is to outline the physics of image formation, electron–specimen interactions, and image interpretation in transmission electron microscopy. Since the last edition, transmission electron microscopy has undergone a rapid evolution. The main objective of this revised edition was therefore to include the new developments but leave the character of the book intact. The presentation of the material follows the format of the previous edition as outlined in the preface to that volume, which immediately follows.

  • Low-cost, nanoscale zinc hexacyanoferrate (ZnHF), an effective adsorbent for cesium (Cs+) and strontium (Sr2+) removal, was prepared using the chemical co-precipitation method. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) spectra, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images were performed to determine the morphologies of ZnHF.

  • In this paper, piperine-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CTS-PIP NPs) were prepared by ionic gelation method. Molecular interactions among the components were confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectroscopy. The morphology of the prepared NPs was characterized by transmission electron microscopy image (TEM).

  • Polypropylene/ maleic anhydride /organic montmorillonite nanocomposites (PP/ MA/ Org-MMT) have been prepared via direct melt intercalation in an internal mixer. Maleic anhydride (MA) was used as a compatibilizer to improve the dispersability of the clay. The structures of nanocomposites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties and thermal stability were determined by tensile analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively.

  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a microscopic technique in which a beam of electrons is transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen, interacting with the specimen as it passes through. An image is formed by the interaction of the electrons transmitted through the specimen; the image is magnified and focused onto an imaging device, such as a fluorescent screen or on a layer of photographic film, or to be detected by a sensor such as a CCD camera.

  • CuO-ZnO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method. Characteristic properties of the synthesized nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, and BJH pore diameter distributions. The formation of highly crystalline CuO and ZnO was confirmed by XRD. FT-IR confirmed that Zn-O and Cu-O bonds were formed in the material.

  • In this report, thin layers of MoS2 were in-situ incorporated into graphene oxide (GO) to form MoS2/graphene nanocomposite by a facile ultrasonic-assisted hydrothermal method. Xray Diffraction (XRD) and Raman analysis revealed that the as-synthesized MoS2 nanosheets crystalized in hexagonal phase 2H-MoS2 while High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) images confirmed that MoS2 layers with average thickness of ~5–6 nm (6–8 layers) attached on the edges and surfaces of graphene sheets with high density and uniform shape restacking in three-dimensional (3D) architectures.

  • The development of a protocol for biosynthesizing nanomaterial in an eco-friendly manner is a major concern in the field of microbial nanotechnology. In this study, microbial synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a high level of bionanocatalytic activity was accomplished utilizing cell extracts of Penicillium digitatum FCMR-728 as the agents for reducing, capping and stabilizing. The presence of AgNPs was confirmed by an indication of a surface plasm on resonance band via UV–vis spectrum at 550 nm.

  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a technique where the electron-beam is transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen, interacting with specimen as it passes through it. An image is formed from the interaction of the electrons transmitted through the specimen, which is then magnified and focused onto an imaging device, such as a fluorescent screen, a photographic film, or a charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor. This technique is capable of imaging at significantly high resolution than the light microscopes, owing to the small de-Broglie wavelength of electrons....
