Tribal area development

Nutritional deficiency is a key impediment to the development of India as it impacts the growth, health and productivity of its population. The government has sponsored a Midday Meal Scheme (“MMS”), a school meal program to improve the nutritional standing of children in the country. MMS currently serves approximately 120 million children in over 1.27 million schools and is the largest such program in the world.

Tribal Development in India is a big challenge as the gap between the ideal and reality is not only woeful but widening with the passage of time. The study was conducted in Udaipur district of Rajasthan as for the development of tribals a separate department i.e. Tribal Area Development Department is in function. These Horticulture Developments were being implemented in seven tribal blocks of Udaipur district at the time of planning the study namely Jhadol, Sarada, Lasadiya, Kotra, Kherwara, Gogunda and Salumber.

The present study was undertaken with the objectives to find out the knowledge and adoption of improved practices promoted under Livestock Development service of TADP among the beneficiaries, opinion of beneficiaries towards the service promoted under TADP and to explore the constraints faced by the beneficiaries of the TADP. The study was conducted in purposively selected Jadol block of Udaipur district. The sample consisted of 60 respondents (30 beneficiaries and 30 non-beneficiaries).

Vegetables make a major portion of human diet. Though the vegetable requirement is 300g/day/person, we are able to meet about 1/9th of the requirement only. A large number of vegetables in India have introduced. However, a planned development in a field of vegetable production will not only improve the nutritional requirement for masses but can also meet the challenge of adequate food supply to the growing population in India. Vegetable has become highly commercialized.

Sacrifice of animals and birds for socio-cultural and religious events have long been an indispensable part of human civilization. The present exploratory investigation was directed in this direction to study poultry sacrifices among the tribal people of Koraput district-a tribal dominated area of Southern Odisha. Six tribal people who facilitate religious practices for the tribal people were taken as cases for this study. They were selected on the basis of having long duration of practising the rituals for benefit of the community.

The present study was undertaken with the objectives to study the overall knowledge and adoption of beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries towards agricultural services promoted under Triabl Area Development Programme and significant difference in knowledge and adoption for agricultural services. The study was carried out in randomly selected 24 villages from three tribal blocks.

Wadi cultivation is a major programme of socio-economic rehabilitation of the tribals and other backward sections throughout the country. Wadi is not only a programme for providing food security and ecological restoration but it is also a strong foundation to build the local capabilities to initiate other community development programmes for socio-economic development and has relevance for all sections of the society feasible with ecological restoration with poverty eradication. Kitchen garden or backyard cultivation is locally known as wadi cultivation in Chhattisgarh.

The study was conducted in tribal area of Udaipur district where Tribal Area Development Programme is in operation under Tribal Area Development Department. The department implements the programme services through line departments or related organization in the area. The Agricultural services are intensively implemented in three tribal blocks namely Jadol, Sarada and Lasadiya as informed by the department personnel hence these three blocks were purposively selected for the study. There were six Agricultural services and for each service, two villages were selected for beneficiaries.

Water scarcity has many negative impacts on the environment, including lakes, rivers, wetlands, and other fresh water resources. Furthermore, water shortage makes flow management in the rehabilitation of village streams problematic. Owing to poor water resource management system and climate change India faces a persistent water shortage. Indian agriculture accounts for 90% water use due to fast track ground water depletion and poor irrigation systems. Water is a critical input into agriculture in nearly all its aspects having a determining effect on the eventual yield.
