In response to the latest statistics regarding the violence and disappearance of Indigenous women, the authors of this paper attempt to honor the often overlooked sacrifices they make for the physical and spiritual well-being of Indigenous peoples. The abstract statistics are manifested in the lives of two Indigenous women who mysteriously disappeared but left a lasting impression on one of the current authors. Specifically, he carries with him their lessons of tribal relational identity, true equality between the sexes, and the belief that love given selflessly never ever really disappears.

Migration had a significant impact on the livelihood of tribes people. This had also affected the existing agriculture situation of tribal areas. The study revealed that more than half of the tribal migrants had high livelihood capital index after migration. Immense increase in physical capital of tribes people due to migration was obvious from study results.

The study was done in four tribal villages Durbili, Suryanagaram, Shantinagaram, and Vanjarapuguda to identify the Nutritional status of the tribal families and studying the dietary pattern of the tribal families. The sample comprised of 450 tribal people. Results revealed that children below 6 years were formed to be undernourished, adolescent girls found to be anaemic, pregnant and lactating women were found to be underweight and anaemic due to micronutrient deficiencies in their diets.

The study was undertaken in Western Undulating Agro-Climatic zone covering Kalahandi and Nuapara districts in Odisha dominated by tribal community. A sample size of 192 tribal people was selected randomly from 12 watersheds of four blocks as the respondents of the study. Institutional arrangements, planning, programme development and implementation, funding pattern, monitoring and supervision were selected as the variables for analyzing the constraints.

WADI project, though the name derived from a Gujarati term for orchards, works as a livelihood project for socio-economic development of tribal people throughout India. Being funded by NABARD and in Odisha implemented by ITDA, it is operationalised in most of the tribal dominated districts and is a holistic approach for the sustainable development of tribal livelihood. Ex Post Facto Study conducted in Champua Subdivision of Keonjhar district of Odisha taking the WADI adopting and WADI non-adopting tribal people as respondents shows the differences in development of both the groups.

The current study was taken up in the state of Tripura and the two districts of Sepahijala and Gomati were purposely selected for the purpose which is mostly inhabited by Deb Barma and Jamatia tribes, respectively. The Western hills of Manipur, India are inhabited by tribal people mostly of Zeliangrong tribe and to some extent by Kuki tribe. They had been living in an isolated society with its own socio-cultural pattern and tradition. The seasonal food produce were processed to enhance nutritive value, flavour and above all shelf life to consume in the lean season. The most common method of processing is sun drying and natural fermentation and boiling in the plain water. Lack of or conscious efforts to limit salt uses were evident during the survey.

The study recommend that policy initiative should attempt at improving livelihood, subsidized LPG distribution policy, increasing the education level of the household members in tribal household and to create awareness about the environmental cost and health hazard of biomass fuel consumption in order to motivate the people towards the modern fuels.

Anaemia is a major public health problem worldwide, mostly among females of reproductive age in developing countries. In India, the prevalence of anaemia among women of age group 15 to 49 years is much higher. The pattern of consumption plays a role in shaping the health of the people of a state. Food habits effect nutritional status therefore is necessary to assess the tribal food habits because a particular tribe food habits differ to another tribe and also from one region to another.

Rice plant population and nutrient management is the key for higher productivity. In due course of PhD work on a neglected red rice crop which is grown by tribal’s peoples of bastar plateau since time immemorial. Very few literatures are available on package and practices of red rice. This study has gone through several research papers concern with plant geometry and nutrient management in rice crop. In climate change era the land races of rice are capable to mitigate the effect of changing environment, when the frequency and intensity of rainfall is unpredictable.

Several scientific studies are in progress using modern scientific tools based on the lead from the folkloric and herbal uses for formulating new western medicine. The present study involves the identification, enumeration and utilization of medicinal flora among the Irula tribes of Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu and a record of the endangered medicinal plants in the study area. A total number of 30 respondents of three villages, viz., Chenneri, Orathur and Kunavakkam-Kollamedu were selected by purposive random sampling.

Sacrifice of animals and birds for socio-cultural and religious events have long been an indispensable part of human civilization. The present exploratory investigation was directed in this direction to study poultry sacrifices among the tribal people of Koraput district-a tribal dominated area of Southern Odisha. Six tribal people who facilitate religious practices for the tribal people were taken as cases for this study. They were selected on the basis of having long duration of practising the rituals for benefit of the community.

A survey was carried out to study the diversity of Macrofungi from the forest of Champhai, Mizoram, Northeast India. 17 (seventeen) species of edible wild mushrooms were collected. The identified specimens were from the families – Russulaceae, Polyporaceae, Boletaceae, Lyophyllaceae, Agaricaceae, Auriculariaceae, Marasmiaceae, Gomphaceae, Schizophyllaceae, Elaphomycetaceae. The species were identified based on their morphology. The ethnic tribal people have extensive ethnomycological knowledge based on which they collect and sell the edible ones.

The study was conducted following the Ex Post Facto research design in Champua Subdivision of Keonjhar district Odisha taking the WADI adopting and WADI non-adopting tribal people for the comparison of their socio-economic profile. The information obtained from the tribals who have adopted WADI Project was very much encouraging. For most of the variables the WADI adopters stand in a higher position as compare to the non-adopter ones. Hence, effort should be taken by the Government for the promotion of more such programmes for the livelihood development of the tribal population in the country.

Tasar silkworm (Antheraea mylitta Drury) rearing and cocoon production are mainlycarried out by Tribal people of Central India and some parts of Odisha and Telangana states. Lack of Tasar silkworm seed production and preservationtechnology is creating difficulties in timely supply of adequate quantity of seed to the farmers and others stake holders..High temperature above 28ºC and less relative humidity than 50% are not suitable for the oviposition and hatching of eggs. In Tasar silk moth, egg retention was also more even after 72 h of oviposition in natural conditions.
