Turbine mode operation

This paper focuses on evaluating the formation and development of cavitation by time of reversible impeller of PaT when operating in pump mode by numerical simulation with ANSYS-Fluent software.

The experiment results reveal suitability of using a mono block centrifugal pump in hydro turbine mode. The results confirm that the pump in hydro turbine mode operate at higher heads and discharge as compared to the pump mode operation. BEP (best efficiency point) for the pump in hydro turbine mode is lower than in pump mode operation. Correlations proposed by earlier researchers for performance prediction of pump in hydro turbine mode are also tested.

A supplementary-fired HRSG is basically a convective unit with a design quite similar to an unfired HRSG. However the firing capability provides the ability to control the HRSG steam production—within the capability of the burner system— independent of the normal gas turbine operating mode. In applications using natural gas, a third pressure level will further enhance overall system performance. Typical design practice is that unfired HRSGs are convective heat exchangers that respond to the exhaust conditions of the gas turbine.
