  • Ebook "The bearing capacity of building foundations" describes the different ways of ultimate bearing capacity determination of building foundations. This four-chapter book considers the effect of a horizontal force acting on a foundation. It also examines a situation where, beneath the foundation level in the zone of influence of the foundation there are two layers of soil, including the case where the second, lower layer is formed by incompressible rock.

  • This study investigates the ultimate bearing capacity of a rigid strip footing on a sandy slope using the Rigid Plastic Finite Element Method (RPFEM). To accurately represent a wide range of frictional conditions at the footing roughness, a new interface element was introduced, capable of accommodating both perfectly rough and perfectly smooth conditions.

  • The study extensively investigated the ultimate bearing capacity (UBC) of an eccentrically loaded foundation under two scenarios (horizontal sandy soil and sandy soil slope), utilizing the Rigid Plastic Finite Element Method (RPFEM). To precisely simulate a diverse range of frictional conditions on the foundation surface roughness, a novel joint element is introduced, capable of accommodating both perfectly rough and perfectly smooth foundations.

  • In this study, construction sequence and prediction of axial bearing capacity of M-pile on cohesive soil were introduced. M-pile analysis used with outer diameter of 318.5 mm and thickness of 12.7 mm. The analysis results show that the ultimate bearing capacity prediction of M-pilein soft clay soil considerably increase compared with bored and cast-in-place piles with the same diameter and depth thanks to multiple blades welded along the pile shaft.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation into the tensile strength degradation in curved glass and carbon reinforcement of TRC specimens. The results show that the ultimate tensile load decreases as the diameter of the semi-circle parts reduce. At the same diameter, the carbon TRC specimens have a higher tensile load-bearing capacity than glass textile-reinforced concrete.

  • The authors have carried out studies on long term behavior of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column by numerical methods based on experimental data that is described by a visco-elastic model, and the age-adjusted effective modulus (AAEM) method is adopted to modelling creep behavior of the concrete core, which is evaluated by the Finite Element Method (FEM) combined Prony's series interpolation by using ANSYS software.

  • In this paper, the ultimate load capacities of shell foundations on unreinforced and reinforced sand were determined by laboratory model tests. A series of loading tests were carried out on model shell footing with and without single layer of reinforcement. The tests were done for shell foundation at different shell embedment depth and subgrade density. The results were compared with those for flat foundations without reinforcement. The model test results were verified using finite element analysis using program PLAXIS.
