The present study was conducted on oestrus Murrah buffaloes presented for artificial insemination (AI) at Cattle and Buffalo farm, Livestock Production and Management (LPM) section of the institute during August, 2019 to March, 2020. The buffaloes were scanned ultrasonographically to record size of the pre- ovulatory follicle (POF).

The present study was carried out with the objective to detect embryonic mortality in a total of 142 cows inseminated at spontaneous estrus. The ultrasonographic scanning with trans-rectal probe using frequency of 7.0 MHz was carried out on day 28 to confirm pregnancy and re-examination on day 45 to assess the incidence of embryonic mortality under farm conditions.

However, a recent study of Moriwaki and al [1] found ultrasound was 85% sensitive and 100% specific for detection of free air in a prospective study of 484 patients. Some small studies have also investigated the utility of ultrasound contrast agents to detect active bleeding [2]. Ultrasound is relatively sensitive for free abdominal fluid. In a study, continuous scanning of Morison’s pouch during infusion of DPL fluid revealed a mean detection limit of 619 mL.
