  • Acute cerebral ischemic stroke is a life-threatening emergency with high incidence of mortality and morbidity. Endovascular revascularization has been increasingly used as one of the treatment options. In this article, we report our outcomes of endovascular intervention for the treatment of ischemic stroke and highlight some technical experiences.

  • In this paper we describe an innovative approach to the design process of Smart City interventions. We tested it with participants enrolled in the Master’s Degree program in “Innovators in enterprise and public administration”: the objective of the Master was to stimulate the acquisition of technical and methodological skills useful in designing and implementing specific Smart City actions. During the "project work" phase, participants learned about a design method named SAM – Smart City Model - based on the Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT).

  • Concern was expressed over a number of issues surrounding the successful use of selfmonitoring, and recognised that its cost meant that it had to be effectively deployed. It should only be supported in the context of a provision of a package of care, including structured education, from a primary or secondary diabetes care team. The initial education should be provided by a properly trained and skilled professional with understanding of the problems of the technology.

  • While previouswork focuses on trafc generated by bot- nets, our work is the rst to study botnet traces based on economicmotivation and monetizing activities. Along this direction, we expect a new category of traces can be used to characterize botnets from different perspectives (see Sec- ion 6). Our work takes activities from individual bots and aggregates them into botnets. The aggregation techniques proposed in this paper may generally benet analysis of other traces in this category.

  • The earlier in the process a student reaches the main idea, the better the structural principle is challenged. Lessons from the experiment suggest that getting a main idea and utility properties reconciled is a challenge that encourages students so that they will have a better drive in the process than students who work from a context adjustment solely. Reflection on the formgiving process was supported by a theoretical division into form elements. This was also used in discussion of a form’s weakness and strength with respect to the design specification.

  • We then use this formula to derive the average disk access latency for each application, when given a cer- tain quota of the disk bandwidth. We assume that think time per thread is negligible compared to request pro- cessing time, i.e., we assume that I/O requests are ar- riving relatively frequently, and disk access time is sig- nificant. If this is not the case, the I/O component of a workload is likely not going to impact overall application performance. However, if necessary, more precision can be easily afforded e.g.

  • Briefly, we construct a measure of relative macroeconomic performance by first identifying the global business cycle using a simple factor model. We calculate seasonally adjusted quarter-over-quarter real GDP growth rates and extract the first principal component across the 46 economies in our sample. This single factor explains around 40 per cent of the variation in the average economy’s output, but with wide variation across economies. We then use the residuals from the principal component analysis as the measure of an economy’s idiosyncratic performance.

  • We propose a solution that is similar to the “Brady Bonds,” used to prevent default in a number of Latin American countries. In the mid-1980s, Mexico and a number of other Latin American countries faced debt crises. In 1988, Mexico offered to exchange its debt obligations with new bonds that were collateralized by a thirty-year zero-coupon US Treasury bond. New bonds were issued by Mexico at market prices reflecting a discount of about 30% at which the old bonds were trading. Seventeen Latin American and other countries followed the initiative with similar plans.

  • In some countries and regions regulations have been introduced with the aim of restricting the use of hazardous substances in these products, and the management of e-waste at the products end of life. However, no such regulations exist in many of the countries in which where products are manufactured, used and disposed of. Furthermore, even where they apply, regulations do not control all hazardous chemicals and materials that are used in newly manufactured products, nor fully address the management of e- waste.

In the Fall of 2003 we included some specific questions on trust, attitudes towards risk, ambiguity aversion, and optimism to a sample of 1,943 Dutch households as part of the annual Dutch National Bank (DNB) Household survey. These data were then matched with the 2003 wave of the DNB Household Survey, which has detailed information on households’ financial assets, income, and demographics.
