  • Papaya is prone to many diseases incited by fungi, bacteria, nematodes and viruses leading to enormous loss in yield. Among all, papaya anthracnose incited by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc. appear to be more severe causing substantial losses to papaya fruits during transit and storage. Papaya anthracnose is the most important disease throughout the year in India and it became a major limiting factor in papaya cultivation.

  • Maize Post flowering stalk rot causing caused by Fusarium verticillioides is major disease and causing yield loss up to 34 per cent. Different liquid media supporting the growth of the different isolates of fungus was observed. Among the eight-liquid media tested for the dry mycelial weight and sporulation of six isolates of Fusarium stalk rot pathogen (F. verticillioides), Isolate FV-3 yielded highest dry mycelial weight of 787.66mg, followed by FV-2 (647.66mg), FV1(581.00mg), FV-5 (451.00mg), FV-6(421.00mg) and FV7(277.66mg) in Takahashii’s broth.

  • d of irrigation commonly followed by the farmers in this region is expensive and inefficient since it causes high water and nutrients losses in deep percolation. Keeping this in view, the present study was contemplated with the objective of examining the effect of irrigation scheduling on growth, yield and yield variables and water use efficiency of cowpea.

  • Rapeseed-mustard accounts for 19.97 per cent of the total oilseeds production in India and it is one of the major contributors to Yellow Revolution. Their yield losses due to Alternaria blight was reported in the range of 10 to 70 per cent variable. The seed quality, seed size, colour and reduction of oil up to 10 per cent and seed germination ability is also adversely affected due to this disease in addition to quantities yield losses.

  • Haemonchus contortus is one of the most important nematode species responsible for huge economic losses to small-ruminant farming in India and world over. Control is primarily based on use of anthelmintics. Over reliance on and non-judicious use of anthelmintics has lead to development of anthelmintic resistance. This wide spread anthelmintic resistance has forced to look for alternate control measures. Vaccination can significantly protect livestock against and lower the economic losses incurred due to H. contortus. Different antigens have been tried with variable success.

  • Rice is the most important staple food crop in the world particularly in South East Asia and gets infested with gall midge which is an important pest especially during rainy season with delayed sowings resulting in huge losses to the farmers in Northern Telangana Zone, India. Forty five genotypes were studied for the estimation of genetic variability at Agricultural Research Station, Kunaram, Telangana.

  • The present study was carried out to make a suitable forecast model that predicts yield loss occurred due to weeds in wheat crop. The data were taken from the annual report of AICRP-WM centres. Gwalior and Pusa are the two centres in which the work has been carried out. Weed density and weed dry weight were two weed infestation measurements that were considered for model fitting.

  • Rice is sensitive to high temperature, especially at the reproductive stage, which causes spikelet sterility and yield losses. The increase in both frequency and intensity of high temperature, along with its large variability, is emerging as a potential threat to the sustainability of rice production. The predicted 2–4°C increment in temperature by the end of the 21st Century poses a threat to rice production.

  • Pre harvest crop yield forecast is required for storage, pricing, marketing, import, export etc. Weather is the main factor which affects crop yield. Variability in weather causes the losses in the yield. Use of weather can be done for crop production forecast. Weather plays an important role in crop growth. Therefore model based on weather parameters can be provide reliable forecast in advance for crop yield. In this study, the focus was on the development crop yield forecast (CYF) model through stepwise linear regression technique using weather variables and historic crop yield.

  • Spot blotch in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is mainly caused by Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.) Shoem in India and south Asian countries and inflected losses in yield up to 50 per cent. The isolates of B. Sorokiniana (BS1 to BS10) isolated from blighted leaf samples collected from different part of Jammu sub-tropics. Cultural and morphological variability of B. sorokiniana isolates exhibited that the colonies were effuse grey-white to effuse black and velvety-white mycelial growth with regular to irregular margins. The colour of colonies varied from grey to dark brown and white to light grey.

  • Chhattisgarh state is considered as one of the centers of origin and evolution of rice and is blessed with enormous funds of rice variability. Scented rice constitutes a special group of rice and the cultivation of scented rice varieties is one of the oldest practices. Looking to the changing consumer preferences, the demand of the scented rice is increasing day by day. The availability of scented rice in comparison to the demand is meager due to low productivity and susceptibility to several biotic and abiotic stresses.

  • c Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] belongs to family Poaceae. It is termed, as 'poor man's crop' as it performs well even in marginal lands under moisture stress conditions, low availability of fertilizers and other inputs as compared to other crops. The foliar pathogens are potential yield reducers, and may cause substantial yield losses when occur in epidemic form.

  • Banded leaf and Sheath blight of maize caused by Rhizoctonia solani f.sp. Sasakii [teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris] is of worldwide occurrence and is known to cause substantial yield losses. It is a major production constraint in high yielding varieties under intensive maize production systems. The pathogen has a very wide host range and exhibits considerable pathogenic and molecular variability. Due to non-availability of highly resistant cultivars, the management of banded leaf and sheath blight primarily relies on chemical control.

  • Chickpea is a cool season pulse and suffers severe yield losses when exposed to higher temperatures during reproductive phase. Stable chickpea production will depend on the release of new cultivars with improved adaptation to drought and high temperature. Twenty five breeding lines of two crosses JG 11 x JG 14 and JAKI 9218 x JG 14 were assessed under timely and late sown situations. High variability was observed for majority of the traits in both the seasons.
