Morphological characterization and genetic variability studies in bottle gourd [Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standley.]

The present investigation was carried out at Horticultural Research Station, Mondouri, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India during spring summer seasons of 2015, 2016 and 2017 in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The morphological characterization was done as per minimal descriptors of NBPGR developed for bottle gourd. The results revealed that the greatest diversity was observed in fruit characters especially fruit shape and fruit colour among the genotypes for various characters studied.

Comparative performance of various bottle gourd [Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl.] genotypes

The present investigation was carried out at the Experimental Field, Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-K, Shalimar during Kharief 2018. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Thirty genotypes were evaluated for various quantitative and quality traits. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all the traits.

Cultural and morphological variability in different colletotrichum Lagenarium isolates of bottle gourd in Haryana

Bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) is one of the important cucurbitaceous vegetable crop being grown both during warm and rainy season in northern parts of India. It has wide genetic diversity and is grown throughout the tropics and subtropics of the world. Bottle gourd is prone to various fungal bacterial and viral diseases. Among various fungal diseases Anthracnose, Downy mildew and Cercospora leaf spot are widely prevalent in different bottle gourd growing areas. Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass.) Ellis. and Halsted is of major economic importance.

Regeneration and histological analysis of regeneration in bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Stand.)

Two different types of explant (proximal and flamingo-bill) from Emphasis seedlings, a hybrid cultivar of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Stand.), germinated under dark and light conditions were cultured on 9 regeneration MS media containing various combinations of BA (0, 1.0, and 2.0 mg l–1) and IAA (0, 0.25, and 0.5 mg l–1).
