The research shows that the irrigation management model can effectively and efficiently estimate the crop water requirements. The model, that calculates evapotranspiration and crop water requirements, allows the development of recommendations for improved irrigation practices, the planning of irrigation schedules under varying water supply conditions and yields reduction under various conditions.

The effect of cow-urine and bio-fertilizers based fertigation schedule was studied at varying levels of drip irrigation on various cucumber parameters in a naturally ventilated polyhouse during summer season. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with 11 treatments and 3 replication comprising of two drip irrigation levels viz., I2(IW/CPE= 0.4) and I4 (IW/CPE = 0.8), five fertigation levels and one farmers’ practice.

The available water decreases as world demand for water increases for various purposes such as industrial, agriculture hydropower. To improve the water use efficiency, there is a need to modify traditional irrigation scheduling. In the present study, the CROPWAT model was used to estimation the irrigation scudding for rice and cotton crop to improve water use efficiency. From the analysis, it was found that reference evapotranspiration was almost directly proportional to the radiation and sunshine hours and inversely proportional to the relative humidity.

Water is a critical input for productivity enhancement especially of field crops. Its judicious and optimum use is needed utmost for realizing higher resource use efficiency and plugging gaps in production. Key technological interventions, which could alter or rectify the usage pattern or strategies in freshwater utilization in agriculture, are the need of the hour. Precision water management approach could help in conserving and making more-efficient use of scarce water resources through integrated management combined with selected external inputs/technologies.
