  • In the present study, a considerable build up in soil organic carbon under tree canopy as compared to open canopy was found and soil organic carbon under tree canopy decreased with an increase in soil depth and increasing canopy distance. The total nitrogen percentage in soil decreased with an increase in depth and canopy. In case of available soil phosphorus, it decreased under the tree canopy with increasing soil depth and canopy distance.

  • An investigation was carried out to study the soil physico-chemical properties of the sweet orange orchards in YSR district of Andhra Pradesh. To prosecute this investigation, fifty sweet orange orchards aged between 12 to 13 years were selected and soil samples were collected from these orchards at 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm depth. Soil reaction of study area varied widely. Majority of the surface soils samples (72%) were mildly alkaline, but at 30-60 cm depth 48% were strongly alkaline, 38% were moderately alkaline and 14% were mildly alkaline in pH. All the orchards were non-saline in nature.

  • Six typical pedons from mulugu division of warangal district were studied for physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties of the area. The soils were moderately deep to very deep, very dark brown to strong brown in colour, gravelley sand to clay in texture and had varied structure including single grain, granular, sub-angular blocky and angular blocky. The clay content in soils varied from 1.4 to 67 per cent. The clay content increased with depth in all pedons. Silt fraction in the soils 6.7 to 32.6 per cent. The sand content in the soils under investigation varied from 8.2 to 80.

  • Six typical pedons from Eturunagaram division of warangal district were studied for physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties of the area. The soils were shallow to very deep, dark yellowish brown to reddish brown in colour, sand to clay in texture and had varied structure including single grain, granular, sub-angular blocky and angular blocky. The clay content in soils varied from 10.5 to 62.2 per cent. The clay content increased with depth in all pedons.

  • Investigating microbial metabolic characteristics and soil organic carbon (SOC) within aggregates and their relationships under conservation tillage may be useful in revealing the mechanism of SOC sequestration in conservation tillage systems. Crop residue retention has been considered a practicable strategy to improve soil organic carbon (SOC) but the effectiveness of residue retention might be different under varied tillage practices.

  • Present study was undertaken at Hirakud command area of Odisha to investigate the effect of continuous irrigation on soil texture, bulk density and saturated hydraulic conductivity of different soils. Soil samples were collected from 15 spots each at irrigated areas and unirrigated areas in two different depths at 0-15 cm and 15-30 cm with Global Positioning System (GPS). Both loose and core samples from each spots were collected and analysed for different physical properties.

  • Petroleum-based products are the major source of energy for industry and daily life. Leaks and accidental spills occur regularly during the exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage of petroleum and petroleum products. Crude oil-impacted tropical soil and natural water samples (0 - 30cm depth) were obtained from the Niger Delta, Nigeria. A total of twenty seven bacterial species of relevance in bioremediation were isolated and characterized using standard and conventional methods. The predominant species belong to the genera Pseudomonas and Proteus.

  • Mineralogical study was carried using XRD analysis of six representative pedons of two horizones (Ap andBw) developed over granitegneissin Kanaginahala subwatershed to describe the mineralogical composition of sand and clay fractions. The slope of the study area ranged from 1 to 3 per cent with moderate to severe erosion, soil colour was dark grayish brown (2.5 Y 4/2) tovery dark gray (10 YR 3/1), texture was clay in all the pedons. The pH was neutral to moderately alkaline (pH 7.55 to 8.32), with ECnonsaline (0.15 to 0.54 dSm-1 ) and organic carbon low to high range(2.82 to 9.02 g kg-1 ).

  • Hydraulic properties of soils play a significant role in development and adoption of suitable water management practices capable of increasing input use efficiency of soils for maintaining agricultural production of arid and semi arid regions. The study was carried out to investigate the hydraulic properties of soils varying in texture, organic carbon and salt contents. The soil samples were collected from 0-15 and 15-30 cm depths at farmers’ field in different villages spread over nine districts of the Haryana state during 2016-17.
