In conventional partial resection of parenchymatous organs significant bleeding is one of the main problems, especially in neonates and infants. The patients rapidly lose considerable amounts of their small blood volume. Laser light leads to photo thermal effects in tissue and causes coagulation, drying up, carbonization and evaporization, depending on the temperature.

Terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs) vincristine and vinblastine are two essential anticancer drugs used in cancer treatments. These compounds are naturally available only in Catharanthus roseus in low accumulation, leading to efforts to upregulate TIAs substances through other expression organisms. The combination of vindoline and catharanthine into α-3∼,4∼- anhydrovinblastine (AVLB) is an important step for the biosynthesis of vinca alkaloids, which serves as a precursor to vinblastine and vincristine.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia is an autosomal dominant condition with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 5000. It is characterized by the presence of abnormalities of vascular structures, and may affect many organ systems, including the lungs, brain, spinal cord, gastrointestinal tract, and liver.

Few studies have focused on the impact of single-organ pulmonary metastases on progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Recognizing differences in prognosis and chemotherapeutic efficacy based on metastasized organs may help in optimizing treatment strategies.

Meningiomas have been described as the most frequent extra-axial tumor in the brain. Most are benign and correspond to World Health Organization (WHO) grade I; however, there are some reports of cases that shows atypical locations, like subcortical intra-axial meningiomas. This represents a challenge in radiological diagnosis because it could be taken as a metastasis tumor or vascular malformations.

Peripheral manifestations secondary to progressive vascular occlusions are characteristic of the rare condition termed thromboangiitis obliternas (TAO) or Buerger’s disease. The central manifestations of this disease are however poorly characterized, particularly those of psychiatric nature, and their prevalence is largely unknown.

The lymphatic and the blood vasculature are closely related systems that collaborate to ensure the organism’s physiological function. Despite their common developmental origin, they present distinct functional fates in adulthood that rely on robust lineage-specific regulatory programs.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy is a preferred technique for living kidney donation. However, positivepressure pneumoperitoneum may have an unfavorable effect on the remaining kidney and other distant organs due to inflamed vascular endothelium and renal tubular cell injury in response to increased systemic inflammation. Early detection of vascular endothelial and renal tubular response is needed to prevent further kidney injury due to increased intraabdominal pressure induced by pneumoperitoneum.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is often used in critical patients with severe myocardial failure. However, the mortality rate of patients on ECMO is often high. Recent studies have suggested that endothelial activation with subsequent vascular barrier breakdown is a critical pathogenic mechanism of organ damage and is related to the outcome of critical illness.

In the recent years, an increasing number of patients with multiple comorbidities (e.g. coronary artery disease, diabetes, hypertension) presents to the operating room. The clinical risk factors are accompanied by underlying vascular-endothelial dysfunction, which impairs microcirculation and may predispose to end-organ dysfunction and impaired postoperative outcome.

Opioids have been identified by the World Health Organization to be ‘indispensable for the relief of pain and suffering. Side-effects, such as nausea, vomiting, postoperative delirium, and effects on breathing, of opioids have been well investigated; however, the influence of opioids on monocyte-endothelial adherence has never been reported.
