Carotenoids are a group of 40-carbon isoprenoids with high lipid solubility, widely found in fruits, vegetables, etc. They have an unsaturated structure with strong antioxidant activity that helps prevent low-density lipoprotein oxidation and protect cells from free radicals.

Ebook "Western North American juniperus communities: A dynamic vegetation type" woodlands occupy approximately 55 million hectares, an area larger than the state of Texas. Various species of Juniperus have been increasing in density and are expanding into associated grasslands, reducing the size of the grasslands. The reason for the Juniperus expansion is highly debated, but has important implications for global change and fire regime studies.

The diversity and ecology of spiders were studied in the Ngoc Thanh buffer zone of Tam Dao National Park, the Cuc Phuong buffer zone of Cuc Phuong National Park, and the Ba Trai buffer zone of Ba Vi National Park. Spiders were collected by five methods: pitfall traps, litter sampling, tree beating, sweep netting, and visual searches in four types of habitats including secondary forests, artificial forests, shrublands, and home gardens.

Snake melon (Cucumis melo var. flexuosus, “Faqqous”) is a traditional and ancient vegetable in the Mediterranean area. A collection of landraces from 42 grower fields in Israel and Palestinian territories was grown and characterized in a “Common Garden” rain-fed experiment, at the morphological-horticultural and molecular level using seq-DArT markers.

The capsular material from Lactobacillus plantarum IMB19, an isolate from fermented vegetables, has been analyzed and our results demonstrate that most of the coat of this bacterium consists of glycerol- and ribitol-type teichoic acids, further decorated with other substituents (α-glucose and alanine), and of a capsular polysaccharide (CPS) with a linear nonasaccharide repeating unit, rich in rhamnose, interconnected to the next via a phosphodiester bridge.

"Inter-primer binding site (iPBS) retrotransposon markers provide insights into the genetic diversity and population structure of carrots (Daucus, Apiaceae)" of genetic diversity and population structure are essential as an initial step in conservation and breeding programs for modern crops. Carrot (Daucus spp.) is among the ten most important vegetables worldwide, however, its genetic structure and phylogenetic relationships are not totally deciphered.

Cotton is an essential fiber producing crop in the world. It also supports additional industries by providing high quality oil and protein in the form of cottonseed cake. Currently, there is an urgent need to increase lint yield, fiber quality, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses due to rising pressure from a global population and possible supply shortages from the effects of erratic climate changes. Classic plant breeding and transgenic strategies need more genetic breakthroughs to support the increasing pressure for fiber quantity and quality.

Air pollution is one of the most concerns problems currently. The air quality of urban areas depends directly and indirectly on urban vegetation because trees are identified to have ability to remove air pollutants. In this study, I-tree Eco model was used to quantify the removal ability of air pollutants from trees at selected universities in Ho Chi Minh City.

The complete and profound understanding of vegetation has practical significance for the sustainable development of biodiversity resources in Nui Chua National Park. Fourteen typical temporary plots (20 m x 20 m) were equally divided between the moist and arid forests. The study suggested that the species and stand structure of the two forest types were significantly different.

Vegetation and socio-economic data were recorded through bio-physical and semi-structured questionnaire survey, respectively from each HF. Respondents were asked to score each individual ES indicator on a 5-points Likert scale according to their relative importance, then the average score for three main ES were calculated. HF were classified into four classes based on its possessed area.

The Dexing Copper Mine is one of the largest copper mines in Asia, but few studies have reported the soil fauna community composition after revegetation. This study investigated the influence of revegetation on the soil fauna communities and structures in three vegetation restoration models (designated as I, II, and III) and in a sample without revegetation (IV) in two tailings pools of Dexing Copper Mines 1 and 2 using modified Tullgren and Baermann methods. A total of 548 individuals were collected, which belonged to 5 classes, 7 orders, 3 suborders, and 19 families.

Changes in habitat structure are the main driving forces for responses of animal assemblages to fire. According to the disturbance theory, generalist species are expected to outperform specialists in variable environments. Thus, we hypothesized that omnivorous and polyphagous species will become more abundant in unstable postfire successional vegetation, whereas monophagous (specialists), due to their strong dependence on host plants, are expected to respond according to the responses of plant hosts.

Lucoppia nicora Djaparidze, 1986 was found in garlic fields in the Kastamonu region of Turkey. This finding is a new record for Turkey and also the first finding after its description from Nikortsminda cave and a vegetable garden in Tbilisi, Georgia. Redescription of the species is accompanied by a discussion of its taxonomic status. Based on differences having generic character in the structure of the prodorsum (length of lamellae; width of translamellae; distance between ro, le, and in setae), L. nicora is regarded as belonging to the subgenus Oribatula (Zygoribatula).

Salsola crassa M.B. is one of the most successful plants used against industrial pollutants. In this study, we selected young Salsola crassa M.B. plants from their natural habitats. Some plants were irrigated with industrial wastewater containing Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pb, and Zn, and others were irrigated with tap water for 3–4 months. Afterwards, the shoots and roots were randomly cut, separated, fixed, dyed, and observed using light microscopy. Structural changes were analyzed by stereology. There were some differences in appearance and structure between the treated and control samples.

Species distribution patterns, community structure, and dynamics are determined on a small scale by soil and habitat heterogeneity. The aim of this work is to evaluate the temporal changes in composition and structure of a tree community, revealing the ecological drivers of the observed vegetation patterns. For 16 years (2000, 2005, 2010, and 2016) we monitored the temporal variations in structure and floristic composition of a semideciduous seasonal forest through 20 × 20 m2 (400 m2 ) plots, totaling 2.08 ha of sampled area encompassing Cambisol (0.4 ha), Oxysol (1.12 ha), and Nitosol (0.
