Sheath blight of rice is caused by a soil borne fungus and biological control of the disease is an efficient substitute to replace chemical methods. The present study was carried out to monitor somaclonal variations of banana cv. Ney Poovan (AB) during micropropagation using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Sword suckers were used as explants and regenerated on MS media supplemented with BAP alone, BAP + Kinetin and TDZ at varying levels of concentrations. The regenerated shoots were again subcultured on MS medium fortified with plant growth regulators at different concentrations. Rooting was obtained on ½ MS medium supplemented with 2.00 mg/l IBA and 2 g/l of activated charcoal.

Climate change has become one of the most contentious as well as pressing issue of our times. Changes and variations in rainfall pattern and temperature have already begun to adversely affect capture and culture fish production. The study was carried out to investigate bovine tuberculosis and diagnostic potential of IFN-γ assay and necropsy inspection in different abattoirs of Assam and Meghalaya, including its species identification. A total number of 234 animals were screened by IFN-γ and necropsy inspection. IFN-γ was performed according to kit procedures and carcasses were inspected for any gross visible lesion. Species identification was confirmed by biochemical test (viz. Nitrate reduction test, Pyrazinamidase test and Niacin detection test) and PCR targeting pncA and oxyR gene.

There is a need to identify the presence of lesions in fish skin as soon as they erupt. Fish skin lesions are either macroscopic (can be visualized by the naked eye) or microscopic (difficult to detect with the naked eye). Skin wounds resulting in loss of the epithelium (superficial or deep ulcers) are serious as they may interfere with osmoregulation and open portals for opportunistic pathogens. Herein, we report on the use of a fluorescein dye for the detection of skin ulcers that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
