VNU in conducting research

The study aims to gain some insights into the confidence and motivation of young English teachers in doing research as a preliminary stage for further follow up research into the research practice of these teachers. The researcher opted for a qualitative approach by interviewing in person six novice English teachers working at a university in Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

This research is placed within the critical discourse analysis perspective that assumes an entangled relationship between discourse and its underlying social meanings. Explicitly, the study of Vietnamese women's representation in 25 TV advertisements related to Lunar New Year with emphasis on gender roles has been conducted.

In this paper, an attempt is made to conduct a survey on the publications and research trends in foreign language majors at University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU ULIS). The survey data includes articles by VNU ULIS academics published in Vietnamese prestigious specialized journals, theses and dissertations by master and doctoral students.

The diversity of bird species is of special importance as it can create responsive and adaptive behaviours among the whole animal population in wild environment. For this reason, the frequent making of inventory lists of bird species helps assess and evaluate the current status of forest resources in natural conservation areas which are inherently under human pressures in our country. During the two years (2009 - 2010) of the study conducted in Huu Lien Nature Reserve in Lang Son province, records have been made of 168 bird species belonging to 117 genus, 54 families, 17 orders.

Mangroves play an important role in coastal zones in many aspects e.g. extremely essential habitats for many species, coastlines protection from natural hazards, and so on.
