Seedling establishment is a crucial and vulnerable stage in the crop life cycle which determines further plant growth. While many studies are available on salt tolerance at the vegetative stage, the mechanisms and genetic bases of salt tolerance during seedling establishment have been poorly investigated.

During the past decades, extensive parts of the Quercus brantii woodlands in the Zagros Mountains declined in size and habitat quality. We aimed to explore the variation of oak woodlands in the southern Zagros Mountains and to assess the vulnerability. We examined 49 plots at different altitudes and aspects, recorded the vascular plant species for tree and herb-layer composition, and collected data on topographic and edaphic factors.

Inadequate knowledge about forests over limestone ecosystem and understanding on how the threatened plants‘ mother trees are distributed and remained intact despite rugged topography and anthropologic activities, intrigued the attention of numerous researchers. Rapid assessment and mapping the spatial distribution of mother trees would be of utmost importance, especially in the context of conservation and sustainable protection of threatened species in selected municipalities of Samar Island.

Climate aridization and increased anthropogenic pressure pose a severe threat to natural vegetation, including coastal plant communities. Those located in river basins of the desert zone of Central Asia are among the most vulnerable. Of the variety of ecosystems of the Ili-Balkhash region of Kazakhstan, forests dominated by a rare relict species Populus pruinosa Schrenk are of particular concern. This species occupies a very narrow ecological niche associated with river banks of the arid zone, which makes it very vulnerable to adverse natural and anthropogenic factors.

Avian poxviruses are important pathogens of both wild and domestic birds. To date, seven isolates from subclades A and B and one from proposed subclade E, have had their genomes completely sequenced. The genomes of these isolates have been shown to exhibit typical poxvirus genome characteristics with conserved central regions and more variable terminal regions. Infection with avian poxviruses (APVs) has been reported in three species of captive flamingo, as well as a free-living, lesser flamingo at Kamfers dam, near Kimberley, South Africa.

Climate change models predict more frequent incidents of heat stress worldwide. This trend will contribute to food insecurity, particularly for some of the most vulnerable regions, by limiting the productivity of crops. Despite its great importance, there is a limited understanding of the underlying mechanisms of variation in heat tolerance within plant species.

Siberian musk deer, one of the seven species, is distributed in coniferous forests of Asia. Worldwide, the population size of Siberian musk deer is threatened by severe illegal poaching for commercially valuable musk and meat, habitat losses, and forest fire. At present, this species is categorized as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. However, the genetic information of Siberian musk deer is largely unexplored.

Holostemma ada-kodien is a vulnerable medicinal species belongs to family asclepiadaceae, commonly known as Jeevanti, is being used since the ancient time, in the form of the drug Jivanthi. It has been attributed to contain numerous medicinal properties and is of very high commercial value. The tuberous roots of H. ada-kodien are used in herbal formulas.

The biodiversity-rich sacred groves are of immense ecological significance. They also play an important role in the conservation of flora and fauna. Besides, several rare and threatened species are found only in sacred groves, which are, perhaps, the last refuge for these vulnerable species. In Dapoli Taluka sacred groves have immense potential as ecosystem service providing habitats.

Medicinal plants are a significant part of medicine systems due to pharmaceutically important secondary metabolites produced. Wild collection is the source to fulfil the increasing demand of these compounds which make plant species vulnerable. So, conservation of species is very essential along with the harvesting of medicinal plants. Here, root cultures of medicinal plants under in vitro condition may provide a source of secondary metabolite without affecting the natural population.

Urdbean has narrow genetic base due to common ancestry of various superior genotypes, poor plant type and genetic vulnerability to biotic and abiotic stresses. The underutilized related specie, V. umbellata (ricebean), nutritive and resistant to most of the fungal pathogens, is speculated to be potential donor. Therefore, V. mungo and V. umbellata were crossed with a view to introgress alien genes. On inter-specific hybridization, the presence of pre-fertilization barriers and post-fertilization barriers were observed. As, hybrids exhibited reduced germination and sterility.

Indigenous knowledge (IK), which is variously referred to as ‘traditional knowledge’, ‘local knowledge’, ‘folk knowledge’ etc., refers to that body of knowledge developed by local and indigenous communities over time in response to the needs of their specific local environment. This indigenous knowledge is really important in conserving the biological resources existing in different altitudinal and climatic variations. The indigenous communities of Kanyakumari use thirty plant species belonging to 29 genera and 22 families specifically in the treatment of various skin diseases viz.

Coldwater disease (CWD) is a bacterial disease that affects a broad host-species range of fishes that inhabit cold, fresh waters. This disease occurs predominately at water temperatures of 16 C and below, and is most prevalent and severe at 10 C and below. Coldwater disease occurs in cultured and free-ranging populations, with hatchery-reared young trout and salmon species especially vulnerable to infections. Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the etiological agent of CWD.

When habitats of a rare and/or endemic species are damaged and/or fragmented by various human activities, the distribution ranges and population sizes of the species will be reduced, leaving them vulnerable to extinction at a much higher rate than other comparable species. Species that experience any of the above attributes must be given priority and monitored and managed carefully in an effort to promote genetic conservation.

Of the current attacks on Web applications, those based on script injection are by far the most prominent. For ex- ample, script injection is used in cross-site scripting [1] and Web application worms [2, 24]. A script injection vulnerability may be present when- ever a Web application includes data of uncertain origin in its Web pages; a third-party comment on a blog page is an example of such untrusted data.
