Trichomonas vaginalis is an important cause of the premature rupture of membranes, premature delivery, pelvic inflammatory disease, urethritis, and chronic prostatitis.Wet mount is the most widely used method for the detection of T. vaginalis in clinically suspected cases of vulvovaginitis. The purpose of this Study was to compare various microscopic techniques for detection of T. vaginalis like wet mount examination, Giemsa and Acridine orange staining.

Aim of the study is to detect Cryptosporidium, a newly emerging parasite in malnourished children with and without diarrhea, using conventional methods and special staining techniques. A total of 727 children comprised of 497 malnourished and 230 normal children having with and without diarrhoea. Two consecutive samples were collected from each individual and one preserved using 10% formalin. Examination of helminthes and protozoan in the stool samples were done by direct wet mount method and by formalin ether sedimentation method.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract caused by the abnormal growth of pathogens. Microscopy of urine is of diagnostic value and culture is still the gold standard for isolation of bacteria. However presumptive approach with non -culture rapid screening tests is more practical and cost-effective to manage UTI. The present study is therefore being undertaken to evaluate the usefulness of several laboratory based rapid screening tests compared to culture.

In the present study 86 number of skin scrapings were collected from various breeds like Labrador retriever (n=32), German shepherd (n=21), Spitz (n=9), Dacshund (n=16), Mastiff (n=5), Boxer (n=3) and age groups from 6 months to, above 3 year with characteristics ring like lesions, alopecia, irregular patches of hair loss. All the dogs were presented to teaching veterinary clinical complex, Odisha veterinary college from December 2018 to June 2019.On routine identification of fungus out of 86 number of skin scrappings it was revealed that arthospores were present in 54 number of samples.

Basidiobolomycosis is a very rare form of subcutaneous mycosis often confused with other clinically mimicking conditions. Poor clinical suspicion and lack of experience due to its rarity sometimes misdirects clinicians, pathologists and microbiologists. Wrongful diagnosis may lead to inappropriate and fatal interventions. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common disease affecting especially infants and young children. The clinical presentations are diverse, from an unaffected infant with asymptomatic bacteriuria to a severely septic child. Accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment is important for the prevention of long-term morbidity and sequelae (e.g. hypertension, proteinuria, and chronic kidney disease). The purpose of the present study was to determine the validity of rapidly diagnostic tests for the early detection of UTIs in paediatric patients. Total 247 midstream urine specimens were processed.

Because there is significant variation and overlap in the appearance of dif- ferent etiologies of vaginitis, objective testing should always be undertaken. Any symptomatic, colored, or foul-smelling discharge should be sampled from the lateral vaginal wall for microscopic examination. Such specimens usually are obtained before other testing to decrease the presence of red blood cells. Secretions are mixed with a small amount of normal saline either in a test tube or on a slide with a protective cover slip to prevent air-drying.
