Wetness controller

This paper describes the structure of a testing device for validating slip resistance. The proposed testing device is able to control the wetness of the movingsurface and the inclination of the photovoltaic panel. The experimental result of the proposed testing device can be served for extrapolation of the slip resistance of the mobile cleaning robot equipped with the validated wheel tracks.

CeO2/SnO2 nanocomposites with different dimensional nanostructures were synthesized by a wet chemical method, using various surfactants such as SDS, CTAB and Triton X-100. Being a promising tropical woody oilseed crop, the evergreen and recurrent plants of Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) has complex phenology and source–sink interactions. Carbon source–sink manipulations with control and two treatments (reduce source, ca. 10% mature leaf pruning; reduce sink, 10% fruitlet thinning) were conducted on 2.5-year-old field-grown P. volubilis plantation during the early-wet season in a seasonal tropical area.

The experiment was done with two mutagenic agents viz., Gamma radiation (γ) and EMS and two varieties namely BCO-1 and Japanese Jhar Bhendi. Seeds were irradiated with gamma rays at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 kRγ and treated with 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 per cent EMS concentration. A total of 10gamma irradiated lines and 10 EMS treated lines along with dry and wet controls of the two varieties were grown in M2 generation. The first two principle components having Eigen values more than one were cumulatively contributing 99.57% to the total induced variation.

Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) is a simple and low cost water saving technology for helping farmers to cope up with the increasing water scarcity in irrigated environment. Irrigation is regulated by intermittent flooding in rice field with the help of Pani Pipe (perforated field tube). The study was carried out in Puri District of Odisha to ascertain the constraints perceived by the farmers that inhibit the adoption of AWD technology. All the selected farmers involved in adoption of AWD were interviewed as respondents.

Drip irrigation has the greatest potential for the efficient use of water and fertilizers. The limited area of wetting under trickle irrigation reduces the active root zone and also the foraging area of plants to draw water and nutrients from the soil. For minimizing the cost of irrigation and fertilizers, adoption of drip irrigation with fertigation is essential which will maximize the nutrient uptake, while using minimum amount of water and fertilizer.

Cryptosporidium is one of the agents associated with diarrhoea in human immune deficiency virus patients. C. parvum is the most common parasite causing diarrhoea in immunocompromised patients. Microscopy is the diagnostic reference standard for the detection of the parasite but it is labour extensive and requires experience. A total 100 stool samples of the subjects attending ICTC and diarrhoea cases admitted in the JSS hospital from March – December 2013 were included in the study 50 subjects were HIV positive and 50 subjects were non HIV (including controls).

Slow sand filtration has been an effective means of treating water for the control of microbiological contaminants. Schmutzdecke is the layer of the microbial community that is responsible for treating the water through the sand bed. As water passes through this biological layer, foreign particles are trapped and essentially eaten by bacteria forms on this layer. Development of Schmutzdecke layer depends on available microbes in raw water, food supply, oxygen supply, residence time, and wetting of sand bed.

The effects of sucrose pulsing, cold storage methods (dry and wet) and cold storage duration (one and two weeks) on the post-storage attributes of cut lilies in Dalat were studied. After harvest, the lilies were treated with sucrose pulsing solutions consisting of three concentrations of sucrose (0, 50, and 100 g/L) in combination with 0.2 mM silver thiosulphate (STS) and water as control for 24h at room temperature, then placed in wet and dry cold storage at 2.5 °C for one and two weeks.

This study determined the effects of seasonality on air pollution in a tropical city of Southern Nigeria. This was with a view to acquiring data that would be useful in policy formulation and planning for proper management of ailments that result from seasonal variation of air pollution in the study area. Sampling for the study covered a peri od of six months, between mid-October 2013 and mid-April 2014. Water wetting of a structured multi-layered thin film consisting of bottom silver and top polymer layers microstructured by femtosecond laser pulses was studied. The micro-structure of periodic trenches was ablatively produced on the top polymer layer of this film using 515 nm, 220 fs pulses generated by the second harmonic of an ytterbium-doped fiber laser at the pulse repetition rate of 20 kHz.
