Aneurysmal bone cysts are benign bone tumors that not uncommonly involves the spine. However, this involvement can cause scoliosis, albeit rarely. This report focuses on the importance of proper management for complete tumor resection to prevent recurrence and spinal deformity.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a structural abnormality of the thoracic spine that is known to impair posture. However, the relationship between DISH and sagittal balance in the whole spine is unclear.

In patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) in the cervical spine, it is well known that the thoracic ossified lesions often coexist with the cervical lesions and can cause severe myelopathy. However, the prevalence of OPLL at each level of the thoracic and lumbar spinal segments is unknown.

Computed tomography (CT) analyses have reported that the prevalence of diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) in Japan is 8.7–27.1%. However, these data were obtained using chest-abdominal CT, and no evaluations of sagittal, coronal, and axial images using whole-spine CT have been reported.

A precise comparison of supine and standing whole spine alignment in both the coronal and sagittal planes, including the pelvic parameters, has not been reported. Furthermore, previous studies investigated positional differences in the Cobb angle only in young patients with idiopathic scoliosis.

The epidemiology and cause of ossification of the spinal ligaments (OSL) remains obscure. To date, there is no study that comprehensively evaluates the prevalence, distribution, and concomitance of each type of OSL by CT among general Chinese population. We therefore aimed to comprehensively investigate epidemiological characteristics of OSL using whole spine CT in the Chinese population and examine the factors that correlate with the presence of OSL.

This study aimed to evaluate the association of body composition components and obesity with bone density. Methods: Prospective study with data on 2968 members of the 1993 Pelotas Birth Cohort from follow-ups at 18 and 22 years of age. Areal bone mineral density (aBMD, g/cm2 ) was evaluated for whole body, lumbar spine, and femoral neck at 22 years using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

Approximately 80% of adolescent scoliosis cases are idiopathic, and some non-idiopathic scoliosis cases caused by spinal cord abnormalities are misdiagnosed as idiopathic scoliosis. This study examined the risk factors for non-idiopathic scoliosis with intramedullary abnormalities, explored the feasibility of whole-spine MRI, and provided a theoretical basis for the routine diagnosis and treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Most of the previous studies about the surgical treatment of dropped head syndrome (DHS) are small case series, and their primary outcome measures were cervical alignment parameters. Therefore, little is known about the associations between pre- and postoperative global sagittal alignment in the whole spine and the clinical outcomes of the surgical treatment of DHS.

The differences in whole-body sagittal alignment between different postures in young, healthy adults
To identify the radiographic differences between the standard upright position and the natural and comfortable upright position. Methods: The radiographic data of 50 young and healthy adults were evaluated, and parameters including the global cervical angle (GCA), global thoracic angle (GTA), global lumbar angle (GLA) were used to depict the spine profile.

The first symptoms of this disease are usually a low back pain with its peak at night and in the morning and morning stiffness, which can last for hours. Both symptoms get better with exercise, back pain can worsen with inactivity. Some patients show only a partial involvement of the spine, in others the whole spine is involved. The physician always should examine the patient´s back by patting it gently with one fist, starting at the cervical spine all the way down to the sacrum, asking the patient, if and which part of the spine is painful during this...
