  • The inability of traditional methodologies and DNA analysis to readily perform wood identification to the species level for monitoring has stimulated research on chemotyping techniques. In this study, simple wood extraction of endangered rosewoods (Dalbergia spp), amenable to use in the field, produced colorful hues that were suggestive of wood species.

  • A large population of rural or hills of Uttarakhand is still facing the energy crisis in the household as well as for small and medium scale industries due to insufficient supply of fuel and electricity. The supply of coal and LPG is irregular for far-flung areas which make them bound to depend solely on wood for fuel. Therefore, a study was undertaken to evaluate the physical and thermal properties of pine needle biochar briquettes to check its feasibility as sustainable solid biofuel for the hills of Uttarakhand.

  • Bamboo is a sustainable and environmental friendly material that has the potential to improve the global decline of natural resources. Bamboo is one of the popular flora in Southeast of Asia, it is also traditional plants that grow abundantly in Vietnamese villages from north to south. Its ability can replace some kinds of wood in decoration and household goods. Bamboo grow up rapidly and can be harvested within 3 to 5 years of planting, in the meanwhile the harvesting time of other hardwood trees must be from 8 to 10 years or longer.

  • In this study, Wood Ash (WA) prepared from the uncontrolled burning of the saw dust is evaluated for its suitability as partial cement replacement in conventional concrete. The saw dust has been acquired from a wood polishing unit. The physical, chemical and mineralogical characteristics of WA is presented and analyzed. The strength parameters (compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength) of concrete with blended WA cement are evaluated and studied. Two different water-to-binder ratio (0.4 and 0.

  • A diode-pumped solid-state (DPSSL) laser system with 808 nm laser as pump source has been developed successfully. We used the optically anisotropic crystal Nd:YVO4 as the active medium. The threshold pump power and slope efficiency were measured and discussed. With lowly doped crystal Nd:YVO4 0.27% and concave-plane cavity, the laser showed good performance in the pumping range up to 11 W. Using the 1064 nm beam, micromachining were successfully conducted upon some normal materials such as plastic, wood; some semiconductors such as silicon and metals such as aluminum, copper, steel.

  • This paper focuses on the prioritization of factors having substantial effects on the surface roughness of wood and wood-based materials in the sawing process. Within the model, four main factors were defined: cutting tool properties, machining parameters, wood structure and properties, and cutting phenomena.

  • China’s papermaking technology itself is relatively similar across establishments because, until recently, the industry relied on a couple of domestic manufacturers making nearly identical machines for each stage in the papermaking process (CTAPI (1993)). The critical differences in the technology come from the use of two alternative raw materials (wood and non-wood fibers) and from the production of either bleached or unbleached papers. Both differences are important to understanding the industry’s pollution.

  • New concepts in rapid prototyping (RP) have made it possible to build many different kinds of 3D prototype models faster and cheaper than by traditional methods. The 3D models are fashioned automatically from such materials as plastic or paper, and they can be full size or scaled- down versions of larger objects. Rapid-prototyping techniques make use of computer programs derived from computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of the object. The completed models, like those made by machines and manual wood carving, make it easier for people to visual- ize a new or redesigned product.

  • Most manufacturing technologies for metallic microstructures have their roots either in semiconductor (inmost cases, silicon) device production or in conventional precision machining. Of these, the techniques that are well known have been used formicrostructure dimensions. Further, they have been adapted and improved to reach the desired precision and surface quality. In some rare cases, itwas possible to use the same manufacturing process for macroscale and microscale devices and to get the desired results.

  • The use of plastics has increased almost 20-fold in the last 30 years. Plastics have come on the scene as the result of a continual search for man-made substances that can perform better or can be produced at a lower cost than natural materials such as wood, glass, and metal, which require mining, refining, processing, milling, and machining.
