  • The aim of this study is to examine whether the change of schema would affect the process of encoding and retrieval. This experiment is a modification of Anderson and Pichert’s study. The independent variable in the experiment was the two different schemas used in the study (Geography student or tourist) and the dependent variable was the extent to which the participants could recall the story, specifically the number of words in this case. The results suggested that a change in schema of the same story would improve recall, as found by Anderson and Pichert.

  • For this purpose, we describe a method for aligning articles in TV newscasts and newspapers. In order to align articles, the alignment system uses words extracted from telops in TV newscasts. The recall and the precision of the alignment process are 97% and 89%, respectively. In addition, using the results of the alignment process, we develop a browsing and retrieval system for articles in TV newscasts and newspapers.

  • In this work, the problem of extracting phrase translation is formulated as an information retrieval process implemented with a log-linear model aiming for a balanced precision and recall. We present a generic phrase training algorithm which is parameterized with feature functions and can be optimized jointly with the translation engine to directly maximize the end-to-end system performance. Multiple data-driven feature functions are proposed to capture the quality and confidence of phrases and phrase pairs.

We first present a stahigher accuracy whereas information retrieval tistical framework where domain-specific systems prefer “shorter words” to obtain higher words are identified in a unified approach to recall rates, etc. (Wu, 2003).

  • We located six studies in health education that evaluated the effects of pictures with text on comprehension of health information. Comprehension is the process of interpreting the meaning of words or pictures to understand their collective meaning. It is different from recall which is the process of retrieving individual words or picture elements from memory. People may remember information without, necessarily, understanding it.
