  • Henning Eichberg’s publications are many and varied: ‘brilliant and prolific’, according to the influential American sports historian, Allen Guttmann (1988, p. 209). His longest (and some would say his most significant) works have been published in German and Danish (Eichberg 1973, 1978, 1988; Eichberg and Jespersen 1985), and it is mainly in the form of articles that his work has appeared in English. Some of these papers are readily accessible; others are scattered in journals and somewhat obscure collections and conference proceedings across a very wide disciplinary spectrum.

  • As the excerpt suggests, TDE.org acts as a resource hub for the world of design, and has over 600-catalogued entries. As of the time of writing, Under Consideration had taken TDE.org offline, due to a technical breakdown in the database. TDE.org has broad appeal, and was derived from the frustrations with a lack of comprehensive design knowledge across the Internet – frustrations not dissimilar to those of this thesis project. As with Wikipedia, TDE.org is a pool of information, but it does not attempt to show connections and commonalities between content.

  • We see this report as a starting point for debate on how best to promote greater creativity and design across UK businesses and Government. More work is needed on definition and measurement, including internationally, if we are to track the UK’s progress in these important areas in the future. Given the novelty and complexity of the issues involved, we have drawn heavily on five specially commissioned papers by leading academics in this field. We are grateful to colleagues from HM Treasury, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Design Council for contributing to our report....

  • When asked where landscape architects work, many people might point out their back door to the garden. It would be more accurate, however, to look out the front door. The landscape is anywhere and everywhere outdoors, and landscape architects are shaping the face of the Earth across cities, towns and countryside alike. Landscape architecture involves shaping and managing the physical world and the natural systems that we inhabit. Landscape architects do design gardens, but what is critical is that the garden, or any other outdoor space, is seen in context.

  • A very important campaign is waged every working day in numerous businesses across England and Wales. It happens as directors, partners, proprietors, managers, credit controllers and their staff try to collect the money that is owed to them or their organisations. They almost always succeed in the end, but all too often the end is much too long coming. The culture of slow payment continues to be a problem and for some it can be a life or death problem, at least in the business sense.

  • The fact that we all became wiser, learnt to look across cultural and historical barriers, was essential. There were moments of deep concern and potential crisis, moments of gratitude and achievement, moments of success in building a common analysis and perspective.
