Breeding approaches for sustainable vegetable production – A review

To the maximum extent feasible, it largely rely upon crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures, off farm organic wastes, mechanical cultivation, mineral bearing rocks and biological pest and disease control measures to maintain soil productivity and tilth to supply plant nutritions and to control insects, weeds and other pests (USDA Report, 1980).
