Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS), also known as Acute Hepatopancreas Necrosis Disease (AHPND) in shrimps, has been identified as being caused by a strain of V. parahaemolyticus. This disease has caused enormous damage to the shrimp farming industry among countries in the world in general and Vietnam in particular.
