Die Nominativ-Erganzung/ The subject E vey sentence has a subject. It can consbt, for example, of a n article and noun, aproper n oun or apronoun. 2. Die Qualitativ-Erganzung/The complement A complement is a word, orgroup of words, which completes the sense of a sentence. It is used after verbs which do not take a direct object,for example, the verb sein (to be), orheiBen (to be called). When asking a question about the subject of a sentence, the interrogative pronoun wer? (who?) is used to refer topeople, andwas? (what?) to refer to inanimate objects.
