Hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha and prolinhydroxlase 2 polymorphisms in patients with severe sepsis: A prospective observational trial

Hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1) and HIF-1 degrading prolyl-hydroxylases (PHD) are key regulators of the hypoxic response but are also involved in many cellular actions. Furthermore, we could recently show that leukocyte HIF-1α-mRNA-expression is decreased in severe sepsis and inversely correlated with disease severity.
