Computer Technology The digital computer is a major and central component of a CAD/CAM system, so it is essential to be familiar with the technology of the digital computer and the principles on which it works.
Computer Technology • The physical component units making up a computer system are often called the hardware. • The programs are commonly refereed to as the software.
The three main category of hardware components • Central Processing Unit (CPU). • Memory. • Input/Output devices.
Classification of Computers Computer classifications. Here are some examples of computers by their informal classifications. (a) This Cray supercomputer has been nicknamed Bubbles, Cray computers have 75 percent of the supercomputer market. (b) Mainframe computers (a) Individuals use personal computers in both the home and the office. (a) People who work in various locations favor portable notebook computers.
